Let's be clear here. No other President in the history of the United States has acted like Trump has since he took office in this term. None. Not even close. The Constitution was not drawn up to facilitate this kind of behaviour.

The problem is the checks and balances were only an illusion, something that existed only as long as everyone was willing to pretend they could actually be enforced. Trump has shattered the illusion and probably fatally wounded the US political system in the process.

I predicted this (can't be bothered to find post). If Panama refuses to let USN vessels pass, it'll be a cassus belli. If they allow only USN vessels to transit for free they are breaking the Panama canal treaty - neutrality terms. They can let them pass, bill the US and the US doesn't pay for now, (but might in future). Or they can allow all naval vessels to transit for free. They won't lose much doing this because there aren't many other navies vessels transiting. Trump will win this one. The USN will save money on Panama canal fees for now.

The US Navy averages only about a million dollars a year in Panama Canal transit fees.

If they won't pay, put it on their tab and troll them with a big billboard showing the balance of their delinquent account.

Yeah, that was also my first impression of "ALL" those videos of Haitians eating cats and dogs. You couldn't tell where they were filmed either or if the folks videotaped were immigrants or even Haitian, but the maga weirdoes were swearing by them.

Idiots.

Unfortunately, no one was wearing a sign that said, "Hi, my name is Jesus, and I am an illegal Haitian immigrant in the US, Go Biden!" but none of them were white, so there was that.

The Canton Police Department released bodycam footage on Wednesday of 27-year-old Allexis Ferrell being arrested after allegedly eating a cat in Ohio.

The incident happened on Friday, Aug. 16, in the 1100 block of 13th Street SE in Canton. After receiving multiple calls about the incident, police arrived at the scene and arrested Ferrell on animal cruelty charges.

Unfortunately my ranking system is only for items I see as positive or negative and doesn't attempt to assign impact. Were Trump to unilaterally shut down Medicare and Medicade, I would assign -1 to each action even though the impact would be enormous.

Not willing to throw away the Constitiion yet.
No system is better then the people who run it.
A couple of countries with Parlimentary systems have gone the dictator route; I give you Hungary and Turkey.
And no political system is guaranteed against stupid voters.

Indeed the Federalist writers were pretty confident that the normative checks and balances they devised would outpace any partisan attempts at a power grab. It appears that was a naive hope.

The hope for the checks and balances system was that everyone would be in it for themselves, and the branches would naturally compete with each other for power and influence using their different political levers in a weird legislative game of rock, paper, scissors. Didn't foresee a situation where a majority of Senators and Congressmen would eagerly give up their power to a President and the Supreme Court would just nod along.
 
The irony is that ordinarily the far-right seem pretty eager to send condoms to countries with brown people. That is, when they can use "CoNdOmS" and "oVeRpOpUlAtIoN" as shorthand for "why are there so many of them?"
