GRAND RAPIDS, MI -- Grand Rapids Police Chief Eric Winstrom said his officers will not be arresting or detaining people solely on the basis of an immigration violation.

Winstrom made the comment Thursday, Jan. 23, during a Grand Rapids City Commission retreat.

His statement came as President Donald Trump looks to crack down on illegal immigration and possibly conduct mass deportations.

“The Grand Rapids Police Department is not in the business of immigration enforcement, period,” Winstrom said.

“We want people to feel comfortable calling 911, especially victims coming forward, without the fear of information regarding their documentation status being provided to immigration authorities,” he said

“We are not to inquire about immigration status. We’re not asking about it. Even if it was proactively provided to us, we are prohibited from detaining based on immigration status,”

“We’ve made it clear to them, as well, that there’s a very clear dividing line. We’re going to be doing our job, and it’s not going to be doing their job,” he said.

Data from Streams Charts shows that due to coverage of President Trump's Inauguration, the News section of YouTube set a new "All Time Viewership Record" with 9.6 million viewers.

Additionally, the Inaugural Ceremony stream on President Donald J. Trump's X account received a stunning 36.7 million views.

In combination with TV viewership, an estimated 80.7 million viewers watched the President's Inauguration, which beats the previous record of 42 million viewers with Ronald Reagan's Inauguration in 1981.

President Trump's order has since thrown the future of about 87,000 new IRS agents who had been hired for the 2022 Act into jeopardy.

According to Forbes, they were meant to 'focus on work pursuing high-wealth individuals, complex partnerships, and large corporations that do not pay taxes owed'.

This one is funny. He's going to stop the hire of 90k agents in an agency that only has about 90k agents to begin with. The IRS was not going to hire so many any time soon.

He also is unaware that the IRS has two kinds of "agents". A handful of armed law enforcement types, but the great majority are accountant "agents" who enforce civil tax codes from behind desks.

No, billions haven't been spent, they've been doing tenders and planning for such a complex project. The billions is there to be spent when the build phase is in progress. If it's a slush fund for Joe, why hasn't Joe got it. Did he forget to put it in his wallet when he left the Whitehouse?
