Attwood - one of the finest novelists of our age, with the sharpest of eyes in observation of social mores - is saying that from history, alluding to Hitler's NSDAP, having purged the opposition, the Bolsheviks and then the remaining socialists (as in National Socialist Workers Party) next in line to be purged by Trump will be the 'real republicans'; presumably the ones who still believe in the constitution, democracy and the rule of law.

Why would she do that?! She wrote the handbook for current US policy and now she's turning on Führer Dump? Nasty woman! Traitor! Communist! Put her on the deportation list once Canada is annexed!

Trump secured the libertarian vote by promising to let him loose. He openly promised he would do this.

Do they get paid extra for being on hearing committees (or whatever they are called)? Good way of topping up the bank balance, if so. Or good practice interviewing for when they get their own show on Fox?

The grandstanding is usually a way to raise their profile with the voters. Kevin McCarthy was banking on turning his stint on the Benghazi commitee into a role of house speaker, until he said the quiet part out loud and had to take a backseat.

No, they get paid a flat salary. But it helps them to look like they are doing something useful by appearing on camera and asking questions. It's pretty rare that these sorts of hearings actually change anything though.

When will we see the burning of atlases? The purges of geography departments? Shouldn't America have more than a Gulf? India has an ocean, China has a sea. Why not rename the Pacific the Ocean of America? The US could then lay claim o everything in the Ocean of America.
 
Trump has signed an EO that rescinds the Equal Employment Opportunity order of 1965 signed by LBJ

The same EO says illegal private-sector DEI preferences, mandates, policies, programs, and activities. should be terminated and has ordered federal agencies to identify "up to nine potential civil compliance investigations of publicly traded corporations, large non-profit corporations or associations, foundations with assets of 500 million dollars or more, State and local bar and medical associations, and institutions of higher education with endowments over 1 billion dollars."

Trump's order on Birth right Citizenship orders agencies not to recognize babies as citizens if their mothers were "unlawfully present" at the time of birth and their father was not a U.S. citizen or a lawful permanent resident.
It also applies to children born to mothers who were lawful, temporary residents and fathers who were not citizens or lawful permanent residents.

Musk appears to have deleted the video. That didn't last long.

ETA: No, it's still there, it can still be watched. It has just been labeled:
"Content warning: Adult Content
X labeled this video as containing Adult Content"

I guess some people are seriously turned on by watching the Blood Tribe Nazis and Musk do the Hitler salute.
