But to what end, I wonder. The pardon power is a core power of the President and is famously impervious to meddling by other branches of government. So trying to undo the pardons legislatively is categorically off the table. The only thing the House of Representatives can do is endlessly hold hearings on the people who were pardoned, with no power to actually accomplish anything.

It'll continue to fuel the idea that Biden was more crooked than Trump could ever be and that the right are the underdogs oppressed by the Deep State.

In that regard four years of investigations that find nothing are far better than a few months with a clear conclusion.

Indeed, the irony isn't lost on me. I don't have a high opinion of police unions, but it's always amusing to see people assume that certain other people have principles when they've demonstrated they do not.

There is clearly nothing wrong with assaulting the police when one is doing it on orders from the president, and as they are from the president they are legal.

Exactly. Musk did a Nazi salute. Later that day, Trump pardon's his militia. Yet here they are, trying desperately to convince us all that what we see and hear isn't actually happening.

They're just now figuring out that the American Episcopal church is LGBTQ+ friendly? I love how shrill calls for "religious liberty" suddenly go quiet when the spectrum of religious belief is laid bare to them.

Also, I saw some commentary that seemed to assume that "National" Cathedral was some sort of arm of the U.S. government and that the composition of the clergy is somehow within that control. Wow.

Not only that, but Jesus is clearly the kind of guy Trump was referring to when he said they were a bunch of murderers released from prison.
If not formally imprisoned, Jesus was surely held captive by the authorities prior to execution, and he was released by his father despite being complicit in the countless genocidal homicides that his father ordered or executed.

It is a sad indictment of the politicisation and corruption of the US (federal) legal system that the outgoing POTUS has to issue pardons for crimes known and unknown over the past ten years, long preceeding his presidency. If Biden and family cannot rely on a fair process then no one can. I can see this becoming the norm, so that those who serve the president see no need to obey the law, as it will be pardons all round after four years. I wonder if the Biden's took the Whitehouse silver when they left? Nowadays there would be no convictions for the watergate break ins.

Will we see the same thing at stae level? Will outgoing governors issue mass pardons?
 
Trump pardons Silk Road creator Ross Ulbricht

President Donald Trump granted a full pardon on Tuesday to Ross Ulbricht, founder of Silk Road.

The infamous dark web marketplace served as a global hub for illicit drug sales that prosecutors said had contributed to the death of at least six people.

Ulbricht, 40, had been serving a life sentence without the possibility of parole since 2015, after he was convicted in federal court on seven charges that included distributing narcotics and conspiring to commit computer hacking.

“I just called the mother of Ross William Ulbricht to let her know that in honor of her and the Libertarian Movement, which supported me so strongly, it was my pleasure to have just signed a full and unconditional pardon of her son, Ross,” Trump wrote in a post on Truth Social.
