Trump's Second Term

Okay, Brainster.

Can I ask you what you thought of it when you first saw it? Like, what was your gut reaction?
Did you think, "Oh he is showing how much his heart is going out to the people who voted for him?" and then be suddenly surprised to read that people were interpreting it as a Nazi salute?

Or did you at least think to yourself. "Oh, that looks a bit dodgy. I hope there is a rational explanation for this." and were then relieved to find out the ADL gave Musk a clean bill of health?

I'm just curious.
Didn't see it before it blew up. But when I saw the full clip (including the "Thank you, my heart goes out to you," which immediately follows the supposed Nazi salute) it was obvious that however awkwardly staged it was, the intent was for him to figuratively rip out his heart and toss it to the crowd.

But let me flip it around and ask you why someone other than David Duke would give the Nazi salute. Is it (as some of the CT minded here have suggested) because he knows he can get away with it because dedicated Republicans like me (who voted for Harris and the Democrats in 2024--you know, those kinds of dedicated Republicans) will cover up for him? And so he can send a secret message out to the neo-Nutsos that he's on their side? See this is the part I don't get--what exactly would Musk gain from this?

I'll answer by saying I have no idea why he would post half the weird and dodgy right-wing stuff he puts on Twitter. So much of his behaviour is off-the-wall and crazy to me that it no longer washes to say that it would be a bad idea to give a Nazi salute at the inauguration.

My initial assumption, when I saw a still, was that it was probably some badly decontextualized photograph and people were freaking out about it unnecessarily. The video, on the other hand, looked utterly shocking.

Maybe that is what he wanted. To make the libs cry more tears. That would definitely be in character.

STATEMENT FROM PRESIDENT DONALD J. TRUMP

I am pleased to announce that former Director of National Intelligence John Ratcliffe will serve as Director of the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA).

From exposing fake Russian collusion to be a Clinton campaign operation, to catching the FBI's abuse of Civil Liberties at the FISA Court, John Ratcliffe has always been a warrior for Truth and Honesty with the American Public. When 51 intelligence officials were lying about Hunter Biden's laptop, there was one, John Ratcliffe, telling the truth to the American People.

For these and many other reasons, it was my great honor in 2020 to award John the National Security Medal, the Nation's highest honor for distinguished achievement in the field of Intelligence and National Security.

I look forward to John being the first person ever to serve in both of our Nation's highest Intelligence positions. He will be a fearless fighter for the Constitutional Rights of all Americans, while ensuring the Highest Levels of National Security, and PEACE THROUGH STRENGTH.
The stasher of hundreds of classified documents in his gold-encrusted ◊◊◊◊◊◊◊ knows a thing or two about national security! It’s true!

Watching this "skeptics" forum devolve into left-wing PrisonPlanet has been highly entertaining!

Read some of the posts and replace Trump with Obama or Clinton and the two are indistinguishable. Hilarious!

That would only work if there was a video of someone at Obama or Clinton's inauguration doing Nazi salute on stage, like this one of Elon Musk doing a Nazi salute on stage at Trump's inauguration.

Do you have a video like that?

Because I have one like that of Elon Musk.

As with all things far-right, the point is to normalize outrageous behavior: just like all the racist, sexist, call for violence against minorities things they say and claim are only jokes, or tests of censorship, right until everyone is too tired to and scared to criticize them for it - then they meant it all along.

Musk is (supposedly) a grown man of untold wealth: the idea that ANYONE not paid to do so would feel the need to take his side on ANYTHING is fundamentally stupid.

"Figuratively rip out his heart and toss it to the crowd". Yes, this very common gesture that everyone does all the time and we all should be able to immediately recognize. Well argued. It's a shame it looks exactly like a Nazi salute, though.

As far as why he did it, you're seriously asking why the world's biggest troll who has on multiple occasions expressed support for the extreme right did a Nazi salute at Trump's inauguration? Embarrassing levels of feigned ignorance on display here.

With hundreds of EOs signed the very first day, there's no way Trump wrote them or was involved in their writing. Who's ruling through his rubber stamp?

trump has signalled most of them during his campaign though. Releasing Ross Ubrich was promised back in May.

I imagine that with many things like this, he and other politicians delegate this stuff to lawyers. He'll have teams of people writing these things.

So you're telling me he's trolling you guys and you fell for it? I won't argue that one, sounds completely on form.

what does this mean, exactly?
An extreme public figure of infinite wealth is behaving outrageously in front of all the cameras in the world -and it would be wrong to criticise him for that?

Well, luckily he's got you to defend him, the poor man!

Did he make any completely harmless and innocent "OK" signs, too? Maybe something involving the number 88? Have a toy frog handy?

well i don't think it's that clear, i think he's got something. he's got a way of talking and moving where he's trying to imitate what he thinks would be cool but ends up doing it in the most awkward way possible, what the cause of that is, idk. his nazi salute is a great example, he does a sig hiel but doesn't really get it right. you can watch it and know what i'm talking about, it was a weird looking sig hiel. his nazi drill instructor would be picking that apart, it's too low and floppy, he's not keeping his wrist straight. sir mix a lot may be able to comment more towards that as to why he doesn't find it to be a properly done nazi salute. anyway, autistic is a good descriptor of that imo.

that said, not all autistic people are the same. and if you have a better single word descriptor i could use to encapsulate what i'm describing i'll use it.
That just means he's uncoordinated, not anything else.
