Trump's Second Term

MTG has joined Rand Paul in pushing for Elon to be made Speaker

I'd be open to supporting @elonmusk for Speaker of the House. DOGE can only truly be accomplished by reigning in Congress to enact real government efficiency

Does Elon know about Ernst Röhm?
He was as popular as the leader once and then…
I see him more as a Sejanus. In his second term Trump will spend more time isolated in Mar-a-Lago (his version of Capri) while Musk runs more and more things himself. Then after Jared Kushner, a rival for influence, dies a "natural" "unsuspicious" death Musk will try to marry Ivanka to worm his way further into the family. This will finally stir Trump (I'd really, really rather not get into the psychology of why right there) to take abrupt action to stomp him down. Just like Sejanus we'll never know for sure if Musk will have been planning an actual coup or whether it was just one presumption too many. It's my fond dream that Trump, on hearing how much Musk suffered physically during his botched execution, experiences such a surfeit of joy it bursts a blood vessel in his brain and he dies on the spot.

Whatever happens it'll definitely be interesting times.

Just watched I, Claudius again so this made me laugh!

The saddest part of Elon blaming the upcoming shutdown on Democrats voting against the funding bill he ordered Republicans to vote against is that he's not entirely wrong. They're flocking to say it was a "bipartisan" bill, why not vote for it?

All his life, Trump has been upset that the old money rich people in NYC would never allow him in their social circles, considering him crude and gauche. Now he finally has a real billionaire who will pretend to be his friend and peer. It might take a lot for him to give that up.

But is Elon old money rich in NYC ? He's new money rich from South Africa. And (due to orbital mechanics) he built his Starbase in Texas. He's middle finger to old money rich in NYC.
Oh wait, that's even more reason for Trump to like him.
Nah, we're overthinking it .. it's just the money.

Trump is now threatening to impose tariffs on products from the EU unless they make a “large scale purchase of our oil & gas.”
Trump really doesn't get the whole concept of nations. He thinks the US is a business and the point of it is to make money.

Not just Trump, I've heard this from countless people over the years. "We need to run the government like a business!" It completely ignores that a government and a business have COMPLETELY different objectives.

It would make just as much sense to say you want to run your aquarium like a business.

Not as long as you think, IMHO. Trump has to be the star. Elon is taking that from him.

The original bill was certainly bipartisan, and the Democrats would have voted for it (as was necessary, as it required 2/3 majority vote to pass) had it been moved, but it wasn't. The bill that eventually was voted on, was unilaterally modified by the republicans to appease trump and elonia, and no way would it have been acceptable to the Democrats (nor was it acceptable to 38 republicans).

Indeed. Remember that Trump only favours people that he perceives are of value to him. Musk is useful for now. Once he loses that value, Trump will kick him to the curb faster than you can say "narcissistic personality disorder".

The EU already imports about 18% of its oil and gas from the USA. Does Trump even know this?? So if the EU told him "OK, we will up US imports to 18%", would he know he was being played?

ETA: Perhaps a reasonable response to Trump's demand should be "Make it 50% cheaper and we will buy more".
