Actual criminal immigrants, MS-13 and the like, are pretty much by definition hard to catch. That's an essential part of being a successful criminal. And when they see armed masked guys with guns turn up, they are likely to shoot back. Much easier to target guys trying to make a living for their family by working in the fields or construction for companies knowingly violating the law; or just standing in front of Home Depot looking for casual work.

What always amazes me is the person who coined the military-industrial complex was President Eisenhower, someone who one would expect to be part of it. The US spends more on the military than any other country. Cessation of hostilities around the world would definitely hit US corporates. I think it is no co-incidence that with the Afghanistan pull out that the Ukraine and Middle East conflicts started. Trump will never be allowed to bring peace to both the middle east and east europe unless a conflict opens elsewhere. Taiwan, Greenland, Panama? US politics is too dependent on big donors and the military-industrial complex have lots of finance for the GOP.

Did you see the Ukrainian assault on the Crimean Bridge a few weeks ago? A big deal was made about it. But that bridge pier was incredibly overbuilt. The bomb had little effect. Underground facilities like this are extremely hard to destroy.
