Despite a court order, a reporter and photographer from The Associated Press were barred from an Oval Office news conference on Monday with President Donald Trump and his counterpart from El Salvador, Nayib Bukele.

Last week's federal court decision forbidding the Trump administration from punishing the AP for refusing to rename the Gulf of Mexico was to take effect Monday. The administration is appealing the decision and arguing with the news outlet over whether it needs to change anything until those appeals are exhausted.

And why should anyone believe that Trump has enough pull with a guy like Putin to stop that war when he can't even get El Salvador's president to return one man who's in prison due to his (Trump's) mistake?

My god, everything is a competition with this guy. Even an exam that is only a personal assessment becomes a contest to reach some "highest mark" that validates his objective superiority over anyone else who has ever taken it.

I've never understood how people who cheat their way to wins can take any pride in them- they know they've cheated, so they know their wins are unmerited. I think, for them, the "highest mark" is some objective thing to grasp for without regard to competition, while, for others, it's a goal that's achieved because of the competition.
 
Firstly I know people can lie so much that they start believing their own lies. I've met several people in real life who have been like that.
Secondly, maybe he views it as him having achieved enough wealth and power to be able to cheat that way, which somehow makes it not cheating, but a status symbol. When you control the game enough that you can declare yourself the winner, that's the same as winning.

Also, he's a narcissist, which from what countless people have told me means he'll jump through all kinds of mental hoops to convince himself he really won, and that he's never made a mistake or failed or lost at anything in his life.

Trump's psychologist niece, Mary, said the same thing about him. He lies so much and so often that he actually comes to believe his own lies.

I'm reminded of how Obama trying to remove Fox with actually decent reason to do so led to many of the rest of the media outlets rallying in support of Fox. I've heard of nothing of the sort happening in response to Trump's similar efforts with inane justifications, especially not from Fox or the rest of those right-wing outlets.

That would be a little more worthy of note if it weren't for the financial incentive that the Trump Administration is providing them to keep him there. When it comes to people wrongfully sent there, though, the vast majority of those sent can be safely treated as wrongfully sent there. That is especially true of the people with no criminal record at all in either the US or El Salvador who were sent there.

So first it was "massive tariffs against Canada and Mexico, until they "negotiated" over better border control then he went ahead with the Tariffs. Then he stuck tariffs on the whole world using some bizarre formula before backing off to a 'baseline' tariff. Now we have auto tariffs that were "definitely on", which might be delayed (without of course giving any sort of time-line to allow companies to plan accordingly.)

I dont think he really lies in a non-mental health way as we all do. He has since his father died done whatever he wants, including saying whatever he wants, whenever he wants and has had that bolstered by no one gainsaying him. He says (well until the last decade when he has suffered severe cognitive decline) what he wants to say, and what he says is his lived reality. He has no way, and this is excaberated by his cognitive impairment to know what is objectively true or false , what he says is "true" to him when he says it.

I agree. We all lie, even if it's just a white lie. But Trump's lying is pathological. I don't think he really has any control over it. And, as you said, he's gotten away with his lies with virtually no consequences his whole life.
