Trump's Second Term

Economics drives a lot of behavior that looks insane on first glance.

I realized this first in history class when an illustrated map showed how it was actually cheaper back in the old days for people to grow cotton in India, ship it to England to be spun, then ship the fabric back to India than to do it all there. That looks really crazy on a map.
Also because it was illegal to spin and make fabric in India under British rule. It was about keeping the developed industry in the right country and having a deliberate market, not efficiency.

Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins next to a ticker showing the Dow down 1,200 points: "We are really, really excited, and very grateful for President Trump's leadership."

Now we are into negotiating? With who(m) and for what?

On the bright side for American Exports, soon the dollar will be so low that even if other countries slap retaliatory tariffs on, American products will still be the cheapest in the stores!

275,000 layoffs in the USA in March, the 3rd largest number in a month since 1989 - the only months that were higher were April and May of 2020 when the pandemic was causing massive layoffs.

I'm starting to get tired of all this winning.

I'm starting to get tired of all this winning.

trump warned everyone we'd get tired of all the winning. Michael Kosta on the Daily Show summed it up nicely.
“The second Trump administration is off to a roaring start,” correspondent Michael Kosta snarked, then quickly added: “If you don’t count the economy, inflation, rampant corruption, cyberbullying of allied nations, and we’re all gonna die of measles.” Yahoo News UK article link

We were looking at new Subaru's recently, knowing the possibility prices could be going up soon. I got an email from the dealership this morning letting me know the price of the one we were looking at just went up 6.86%. I let them know we won't be making any major purchases for a while.

Poor Boy!

Eric Trump
@EricTrump
I wouldn’t want to be the last country that tries to negotiate a trade deal with @realDonaldTrump. The first to negotiate will win - the last will absolutely lose. I have seen this movie my entire life…

I think we all should be getting ready to buy the USA for pennies to the dollar in the bankruptcy sale!
If anyone is going to exploit opportunities to step in and buy US assets on the cheap then it's going to be someone with lots of spare cash. Someone with lots of cash because they've been manufacturing for much the world for 20+ years. China.
