Trump's Second Term

President-elect Donald Trump said he has not ceded the presidency to billionaire Elon Musk, calling that accusation a “hoax.”
“No, he’s not taking the presidency,” Trump said Sunday at Turning Point USA’s AmericaFest conference in Phoenix, Arizona.
Along with addressing the “President Musk” accusations at the conservative conference in Phoenix, Trump also said that Russian President Vladimir Putin wants to meet with him “as soon as possible,” and Trump wants to end the war between Russia and Ukraine “quickly.”
“Woke has to stop. Because along with everything else, it’s destroying our country. We’re going to stop woke,” Trump said. “Woke is ◊◊◊◊◊◊◊◊.”

Anybody else thinking Trump was specifically tasked with destroying the US economy? Threats of tariffs and now trying to get us blocked from using the Panama Canal?! How much American import/exports travel through that canal?! We're going to fly everything? Or take the Northwest Passage? (Although thanks to global warming it's more navigable than ever, but antagonizing Canada isn't going to make it a welcome alternative.) This crap he's spewing is exceptionally stupid, even for Trump. This isn't just being a bad businessman, this is the behavior of someone in charge of something trying to wreck it to collect on insurance.
Why not?

As a famous billionaire once said: A recession is a way for money to transfer from the impatient to the patient. A lot of folks get rich buying low if they have the resources when the economy stumbles.

During the pandemic, the crash in oil prices led to a lot of smaller oil companies being gobbled up by the bigger ones. Leading to almost Standard Oil levels of monopoly.

A crashed economy means that the rich with enough liquid assets can buy up failing companies and resources. Giving us a whole bunch of nifty oligarchs to buy up elections.

What's the price? Trump gets less popular outside of his fanbase. Gosh that's never happened before. He's a lame duck (most likely) and probably won't survive the full term, or will be a drooling idiot by the time the economy hits rock bottom. So Vance takes over and presides over a weak-sauce recovery and the billionaire-owned media will fawn and drool over his .4% GDP and tell us how great things are by the time he comes up for reelection. If Vance is lucky the birdflu pandemic will have run its course and he can brag about the price of eggs only being $6 a dozen.

Trump's imperial ambitions in Greenland and Panama, together with his threats against Gazans/Syrians/Lebanese/Egyptians/Jordanians (assuming he and his can read maps) clearly demarcate the US as a now fully sworn enemy of international law, and thus an enemy of all humankind. This is the American Second Reich, the first being the Confederacy. Elect a madman, expect a reich, d'oh.

BTW, notice the dead silence of board "Libertarians" on the massive and progressive reduction of individual rights under Trump's GOP? Safe to conclude they are, as has been pointed out many times over the years, merely neofeudalists hellbent on oligarchy, the main point being for the well-to-do to pay no taxes; that's for poor suckers. US "libertarians" have been outed, and they are buck naked to the world.

I thought Trump was all about USA first, not invading other countries. Frankly, this is just a stupid news diversion.
He's about saying whatever gets him a positive reaction from the audience.

Whether he will actually do many of these things is the key thing.

Most stuff goes cross country from coast to coast by train.

Panama is more important to the USA as a route for transferring warships from eat to west.
A big part of the reasoning behind giving the canal zone back to Panama was because it's not big enough to take super-sized freight ships which are increasingly the default size.

He's after Greenland again. It's an absolute necessity for purposes of National Security and Freedom throughout the World apparently.

@realDonald Trump

I am pleased to announce Ken Howery as my choice for United States Ambassador to the Kingdom of Denmark. Ken is a World renowned entrepreneur, investor, and public servant, who served our Nation brilliantly during my First Term as U.S. Ambassador to Sweden, where he led efforts to increase Defense, Security, and Economic Cooperation between our Countries. As a Co-Founder of PayPal and venture capital fund, Founders Fund, Ken turned American Innovation and Tech leadership into Global success stories, and that experience will be invaluable in representing us abroad. For purposes of National Security and Freedom throughout the World, the United States of America feels that the ownership and control of Greenland is an absolute necessity. Ken will do a wonderful job in representing the interests of the United States. Thank you Ken, and congratulations!

The current devolved leadership of Greenland is going to enjoy that message, they've been pretty hostile to the Danish government for a while now, and open about wanting a much closer relationship with the US.

Trump appears to believe that much like himself the USA should never have to pay for anything. There should always be some sucker to foot the bills or just give them stuff for free because of how awesome Trump/USA is.

The move to Canada idea and defeatism:
But I see another danger emerging that risks accelerating Trump’s hostile takeover. That’s the cynicism of people at every level who should know better. There’s nothing they can do about it, they say. It’s all over, they say. Trump and the billionaires have won, they say, and maybe all they can do is turn off the news, forget politics and flee the country. They wrap their defeatism in a white surrender flag, hiding their demoralization with know-it-all cynicism about the state of our nation. Many of these Americans should be a part of the pro-democracy opposition, flexing their capacity for courage, but they’ve decided they know better and refuse to stand up or speak out.

I have noticed in recent weeks that the constant drumbeat of bad news, driven by the feverous pitch of bad actors bent on burning down our house—by stripping human rights, attempting to overthrow our government, refusing to act after more children are gunned down, remaining silent after yet another racist mass murder, siding with Vladimir Putin, allying with other shameless nationalists and extremists, and shoving our democracy toward the ash heap of history—has begun to tire me out.

Being libertarian was never about your liberties!

Unless the leadership of Greenland have evacuated their brains from their skulls by means of a 20 guage, I don't think they're stupid enough to want to join T****y's america.

They've been making overtures towards the US for a good while now, and know that independence will be impossible (they recieve a block grant of 4 billion Danish kroner, around $550 million + the Danish state has around $450 million of expensenses on defense etc.) unless they can secure a financially strong backing from someone else. They tried making overtures towards China, inviting Chinese companies to extract rare metals, but that turned into a monumental fiasco.
