We had a very meaningful meeting in the White House today.
Much was learned that could never be understood without conversation under such fire and pressure.
It's amazing what comes out through emotion, and I have determined that President Zelenskyy is not ready for Peace if America is involved, because he feels our involvement gives him a big advantage in negotiations.
I don't want advantage, I want PEACE.
He disrespected the United States of America in its cherished Oval Office.
He can come back when he is ready for Peace.

Zelensky obviously asked Trump for security guarantees, and was refused, and so for the first time this week, Trump didn't get his way. Zelensky has been fighting a war for three years to save his country, and so we should not expect him to behave in any other way. He is a fighter, and will not give up unless his people ask him to do that. He was punished deliberately in that press conference, and it smacked as the techniques that the Church of Scientology use against critical investigative journalists. I don't accept that it was a disaster for Zelensky as the BBC are asserting. He was never going to sign that deal without American security guarantees, and rightly so, and he was always going to be bullied for standing up to the interests of his own country. By the time the press conference was called and Trump didn't get what he wanted, Zelensky was always going to get that bullying and insulting treatment however he conducted himself and however he tried to defend himself..
 
You can bet Trump thought he came out of that looking just great because he's incapable of thinking otherwise. Vance probably imagines he did a great job too.

What a couple of absolute bellends. The whole world got to see them shouting down one of the bravest men they will ever meet.

I watched that trainwreck unfold without the full context - do I gather Zelensky declined to sign Trump's mineral deal unless it offers Ukraine some kind of security in return?

in the end, the only thing that matters for Zelensky is to protect Ukraine - convincing the US to give guarantees was the mission, and it failed.
So in that sense, he lost.
But then, there was nothing to win, as Trump was never going to give any guarantees at this point.

Let's see if Republicans can put some pressure on Trump.

I can bet 100% that on TwiX the MAGAmorons are shouting "TRUMP DESTROYS ZELINSKYY!!!!" That kind of blatant, blind idiocy is how we got here in the first place, and it makes me sick.

Agreed, there will be many that admire such behaviour. They like to see strength. Or what can be dressed up as strength.
