Minor quibble. Bannon's repeatedly and publicly stated that they're working on a number of different ways to make their autocoup work this time. Without more specifics, it's inappropriate to assume that all those ways rely on the SCOTUS letting him run. That he's being so brazen about it is already a really big red flag, of course.

Another quibble. "Scared" may well be inaccurate, at least in that manner. "Just playing the game" may well be the case instead, with the obvious implication that truth and justice aren't actually all that high among the things that they value.
