I was wondering, has anyone ever sat down and figured out what her actual income is if she is saving $4k or $11k from eliminating tax on tips?As even the Fox report notes, the bill to drop tip taxes had bipartisan support and passed the senate but the house did not bother with it since it was folded into Trump's big bill. Sharon is actually a Doordash deliverer, her husband does have cancer, and she has been a spokesperson for not taxing tips, though the meeting was set up, obviously. Interestingly, in the Fox video she asserts that she saved 3 to 4 thousand dollars owing to the bill, not the 11 thousand first stated. Considering that she also states she makes more than half her income from tips, one suspects that she's not making a fortune at her job. I sure hope her husband has Medicare.
"Low income" tax brackets are around 10-12%. An individual saving $4000/year in that tax bracket would have been earning roughly $40000 per year, just on tips, at a minimum. Add in whatever regular wage she receives and she was probably earning at least the "average" income in the U.S. Of course, if she were at a higher tax bracket, that might account for her saving more money even if she didn't earn as much in tips, but it also means she was earning more overall.
(Note that that is a very rough estimate.).
