Trump's Second Term

But I think there's another set of Trump voters (how few or many I can't say), who are represented by their juvenile, sneering posts here, who didn't and don't care about those problems and had only one reason for their votes- that Trump tweaks the libz. And for those voters, Trump is doing exactly what they wanted/needed- nothing else really matters.
That's the only sort of Trump supporters we're likely to hear from at the moment.

What I find amusing is Musk bragging about saving 28 million dollars by canceling 10 consulting contracts. Without mentioning the purpose of the contracts. It's probably easy as hell to find countless such contracts that might not sound beneficial at first glance or that might not fit my own agenda. The US could save hundreds of billions by canceling contracts. But that doesn't mean it's a good idea.

Cutting costs vs. delivering value.

I could easily reduce our grocery bill by 100%, but we'd be very hungry very quickly.

Consulting contracts specifically are always something I'm leery about because consulting has long been a way to hide truly bogus payments. Being hired as a "consultant" is largely code for being given money without doing anything of value, or of a value commensurate with the expense.

But in general someone acting under public authority to exercise discretion in funding owes the public some transparency. Congress wrangles over the budget, but at least that's a public spectacle. Some guy who simply appoints himself as Exalted Edge Lord of the Exchequer and does whatever he wants according to his own unexplained whim is not a public servant.

Now factor in that His Lordship actually holds and fulfills government contracts, and you have a major conflict of interest.

I think +1 for south Africa is wrong. Although potentially the government could expropriate land (from anyone, not just Afrikaners), it has not done so, and the circumstances in which it can do so are very limited. So at best this should be 0. More correctly should be -1 as Trump implies actions have occurred when they haven't. The other part of the order is South Africa bringing the case against Netanyahu to the ICC. Scoring this is political, and not factual. It depends entirely whether you believe that it is wrong that Netanyahu be potentially tried for criminal acts, or if Israeli prime ministers should only be subject to Israeli law, (to which he has immunity as I understand (like the POTUS) whilst he remains in office). I'd suggest since this is purely political this should be scored a zero.
Thanks for this. On the strength of this comment and the favourable responses, I've reduced the score to 0 (neutral.)
If you believe acting against the ICC was wrong then this should be -1.
I confess I'm unsure about the phrase "If you believe acting against the ICC was wrong." Did you mean, "If you believe including the complaint about South Africa bringing a case before the ICC was wrong then this should be -1"?

Trump has signed an Executive Order sanctioning members of the ICC, which I have scored as -1.

NIH has cut biomedical funding, effective immediately
In the latest stupidity by one of the most inept governments in world history, NIH is attempting to cut biomedical funding by limiting overhead to 15 percent. The idiots in the Trump Administration apparently have NO idea what overhead covers. No, it is not just administrative costs.

'We're not a cult': Arab Americans for Trump leader grilled over president's Gaza plan

The chair of the former "Arab Americans for Trump," which underwent a name change after Donald Trump declared he wanted to clear the Gaza Strip of Palestinians as part of a U.S. takeover, was forced to scramble on Saturday morning on CNN.

Appearing with host Victor Blackwell, Bishara Bahbah grew aggravated when asked if he was lied to by Trump prior to the election only to be betrayed this past week during a press conference.

"The last time you were on, the name of your group was Arab Americans for Trump, you changed it this week after those announcements about Gaza. Do you no longer support the president?" Blackwell pressed his guest.

'Well, Arab Americans for Trump was created to help President Trump win the election," Bahbah replied. "We wanted an end to the war in Gaza, primarily, and the president also promised us a lasting peace in the Middle East that is satisfactory to all parties. Based on those two promises, we lent our the president our vote. Now, when he started suggesting that relocating Gazans, which is against international law, against Palestinian interests, against the continuity of a Palestinian state between the Gaza Strip and the West Bank, we could not come out with a statement under the title of Arab Americans for Trump. First of all, we're not a cult. Secondly, we want peace. We started supporting the president because we wanted peace and as a result, we changed the name."

"So you say that the president told you in your response to saying that you're in this for a two-state solution 100%? Do you think the president lied to you?" Blackwell asked.

"You know, it remains to be seen," Bahbah deflected. "We're three weeks into this game, and a lot of things have been happening as you mentioned on your show and I believe that the president wants a legacy of peace. He wants to be known as a peacemaker, he wants to be known as the president who has been able to achieve that, something that no other U.S. president has been able to achieve, which is peace in the Middle East. there cannot be peace in the Middle East without a two-state solution, period."

"He apparently doesn't believe that because what we've heard from him this week is that he wants the Palestinians out, everybody can come back," Blackwell fired back.

"I mean, we'll play a little bit more from the president, but you say that will remain to be seen. What else do you need to see from the president? What he told you before the election is not what he's saying now. What additional variable are you waiting for to determine if he's committed or not to a two-state solution?" the CNN host persisted.

"Well, you know, we helped the president win the elections. Next year there will be elections for Congress and Republican's hold on Congress is very shaky right now," Bahbah offered. " So without our support, the Republicans will not be able to hold Congress. So we have the leverage over the political system. With our votes to make sure that the president's agenda continues on. But we will not accept the relocation of Palestinians outside of Gaza. Period."

Did this conversation actually happen?
The only source I can find is this:

It was posted by Andy_Ross earlier in this thread. Unfortunately Andy rarely includes links. Most of the time when I put various quotes into DuckDuckGo I can find the source, so I trusted the remark to be accurate.

Trump on DOGE obtaining Americans' personal information, including social security numbers and bank numbers: "They get it very easily. We don't have very good security in our country."
(some snippage)
REPORTER: "So to be clear, you’re fine with DOGE collecting Americans' private financial data?"
TRUMP: "Look, if DOGE didn’t do it, somebody else would. That’s the way it works, folks."

"we want to ask the president to reconsider because these actions are causing pain and trauma"
Oh, now it's a problem he's causing pain and truma🙄.
No. It's a problem because was supposed to be causing and trauma to those sinners deviants, not us.

BREAKING: Edward Coristine, a 19-year-old member of Elon Musk’s DOGE who gained access to the highly sensitive federal payment system, was fired from an internship for allegedly leaking information to a competitor, Bloomberg reports

“Edward has been terminated for leaking internal information to the competitors,” a Path Network executive wrote in a June 2022 message seen by Bloomberg. “This is unacceptable, and there is zero tolerance for this.”

Trump's Attorney General Pam Bondi this week disbanded a force designed to combat foreign interference in elections, as well as another initiative which targeted Russian oligarchs.

In an order signed on Bondi's first day in office, she disbanded the FBI's Foreign Influence Task Force - which aimed to prevent foreign meddling in US elections - to reassign its staff to focus instead on drug cartels and transnational criminal organisations.

The order stated it would "free resources to address more pressing priorities, and end risks of further weaponization and abuses of prosecutorial discretion".

Bondi also disbanded Task Force KleptoCapture, which was launched after Russia's invasion of Ukraine. It had been tasked with seizing yachts and other assets from Russian oligarchs.

So, re-hired in a few days then?
If he's 19 and that took place in 2022, he would have been about 16. I'm not sure of the timeline here.
