The problem with vote-by-mail is that it results in higher voter participation. Republicans do worse when more people vote, which we all know is the reason they want to ban it.

True in most cases. In my state, vote by mail increases participation among rural voters who tend to vote Republican. That's why the Republicans in my state not only didn't object to voting by mail, it was their idea. The lieutenant governor's office and the county clerks went to enormous effort to secure the system and thereby convey confidence in it to voters, especially older voters who might have outdated reasons to be skeptical.

It was only after MAGA took the position that voting by mail was rife with fraud that people in our legislature wanted to go back to paper ballots cast only on Election Day in a secured room. In other states, vote by mail indeed improves voter turnout among people not likely to vote Republican. But not here. Utah lawmakers would rather tear down the awesome thing they built than contradict MAGA claims.

And this might actually bite them. Utah's gerrymandering requires cracking our largest city in roughly a pie-slice fashion so that each segment of the liberal urban population is diluted by just enough conservative rural voters to do the trick. It's actually true that you can go to the Iceberg drive-in in my city, get an ice cream cone, and walk through all four Congressional districts before you finish your ice cream or before it melts. But if voting goes back to in-person voting with our current districts, the assumptions that the gerrymandering was based on no longer hold. Rural voters will be less likely to get out and vote for Republicans because it's farther to the polls. And the urban voters who are not very far from polling places will have a greater effect.

Interestingly, Here in Vermont the Republican governor also supports mail in voting. Though things are a bit different here, since we have only one Congressional district. But the blueness of the state is largely owing to the cities, so it's possible mail in voting encourages more rural voters,, who tend to vote Republican. Smaller districts and towns have traditionally used paper ballots anyway, and recent laws require voting machines to emit paper ballots, and in some cases, I gather that the actual reading of the votes is from those. (Not entirely sure how that's done because I'm in one of those paper ballot towns. The one we get in the mail is basically the same one we would tick off at the polls).

Anyway, whatever the MAGA folks want, our government is apparently not having it.

A sewer line breach in Maryland has caused millions of gallons of raw sewage to be dumped directly into the Potomac River, a result of incompetent Local and State Management of Essential Waste Management Systems. This is the same Governor who cannot rebuild a Bridge. It is clear Local Authorities cannot adequately handle this calamity. Therefore, I am directing Federal Authorities to immediately provide all necessary Management, Direction, and Coordination to protect the Potomac, the Water Supply in the Capital Region, and our treasured National Resources in our Nation's Capital City. While State and Local Authorities have failed to request needed Emergency Help, I cannot allow incompetent Local "Leadership" to turn the River in the Heart of Washington into a Disaster Zone. As we saw in the Palisades, the Democrat War on Merit has real consequences. The Federal Government has no choice, but to step in. I am opposed to the future boondoggle known as "Gateway," in New York/New Jersey, because it will cost many BILLIONS OF DOLLARS more than projected or anticipated, much like Gavin Newscum's "Railroad" to nowhere, which is many times over budget, with no end in sight, and could financially obliterate what is left, after Newscum, of the California Economy. It is a disaster! Gateway will likewise be financially catastrophic for the region, unless hard work and proper planning is done, NOW, to avoid insurmountable future cost overruns. Please let this statement represent the fact that, under no circumstances, will the Federal Government be responsible for ANY COST OVERRUNS - NOT ONE DOLLAR! I also have searched the Founding Fathers for voter ID. Not a single one of them had a photo ID! I will agree to a personal seal and signature. The government must provide the wax and I will put the seal next to my signature.

On that topic, could the government produce 340 million rings for us citizens to use, for lifetime? They all have to be unique, for all our seals.
