Trump's Second Term

What? You mean that now that he doesn't need them he's going to screw the farmers too? Mercy me, who could have foreseen?
The past does tend to be the best predictor of the future. Trump screwed farmers hard during his first term. So hard that Republicans felt the need to do big bailouts for them and they still ended up massively in the hole. The farmers, at least. Big Ag, not so much as much of that bailout money went to them and they had lots and lots of opportunity to buy up the land of bankrupt smaller farms for cheap. In a related note, farmer suicides spiked under Trump.

Despite all that, about 78% of voters in heavily farm areas voted for Trump this time... and they immediately started getting horribly screwed over again when Trump regained power.

Trump’s Assault on Small Farmers
And what it could mean for rural communities as we know them.

Trump's screwing over a lot of rural communities really hard.

That is the exact video that has been shown multiple times, but it is actually from June...

I've seen it stated the video is from June but how do we know that? On Reddit someone wrote it was from 2019.

The New York Post published photos of trump en route to his Northern Virginia golf course yesterday. He was moving but he doesn't look so good, that's for sure.

If the Appeals Court ruling is upheld by SCOTUS or not challenged by SCOTUS, then all the tariffs made by Trump stop being enforced.
I've heard the steel and aluminum tariffs are not included in this and are legal, based on previous legislation.

It's only the ones not backed by legislation that are illegal.

My gut says the SC will decide that what Trump's done isn't tariffs but something else, so the decisions against them don't stand and he can do them as much as he likes until Congress passes a law against this new thing. In which case the process will repeat.
My gut says that the SC will rule by a 6-3 vote that it lacks the authority to interfere with a president's conduct of foreign policy. (Because it says so in the constitution, right next to where it says that a president has immunity for prosecution for crimes committed as part of official acts.)
By a vote of 7-4, the US Court of Appeals ruled (page 5) that the IEEPA's use of the word "regulate" does not imply the power to impose tariffs. The four dissenting judges disagreed, saying (page 64) "IEEPA’s language, as confirmed by its history, authorizes tariffs to regulate importation—a conclusion that the majority does not squarely reject, but Judge Cunningham and those who join her opinion do."

It would not surprise me if a majority of the Supreme Court's justices agree with the appeals court's minority on this point. The main reason I have some doubt about this is that a few members of the Supreme Court's "conservative" majority might be starting to realize that any precedent they set here would empower future presidents as well as Trump, and a few of them might be intelligent enough to conceive the possibility that some future president might be a Democrat.

With regard to refunds, I should perhaps point out that Trump et al. promised refunds to the plaintiffs if the courts ultimately decide the IEEPA tariffs are illegal. The plaintiffs are five private companies and twelve states of the US. It is not hard to imagine Trump et al. refusing to refund tariffs paid by other companies and other states, and it is also not hard to imagine the US Supreme Court agreeing that everyone else who wants a refund has to bring their own separate case against Trump et al.

Update: someone commented they saw him in person here in VA today. They also said they saw police. All of this was about 90 mins before I was out and about for the day, when there were no police. It is possible he was here for a breakfast or something and left before we left our house. But he definitely didn't play golf here today, as that's an all day thing.

The kids on the cross country team I coach could see him. He was wearing a white shirt and red hat. They drove right by them while they were running.
So we have this: WHITE SHIRT AND RED HAT WERE SEEN.

Daily Beast reports:
President Donald Trump, fresh from confirming he’s still alive after rumors swirled to the contrary, embarked on one of his Truth Social posting sprees—this time sharing multiple AI-generated memes and videos of himself. In among the 15 links posted without commentary or context Saturday are several AI-generated images, including Trump as a police officer and a SWAT officer. Daily Beast article via Yahoo News link

It was noted the "World Will Soon..." was a repost of an image posted on X by florintruth. Some (most?) people found it disturbing and noted the 'Q' on the palm of trump's left hand.

Trump sent out an email at 8 am this morning saying “I want to try and get to heaven.”Pretty weird to send out when you’re trying to reassure people that you’re healthy!

Someone should tell him “nope, you’re not getting into Heaven and you’re not getting a Nobel Peace Prize, but don’t worry, your funeral will be watched by millions from around the world!!

Trump or a double was sent to the Virginia golf course. Witnesses saw a guy inside a car in a Trump hat. No pictures. I mapped it out. 40 min drive. It appears they did not stay long enough to play a round.

How long does it take to get 18 holes-in-one?
