An appeals court has thrown out the massive civil fraud penalty against President Donald Trump, ruling Thursday in New York state’s lawsuit accusing him of exaggerating his wealth.

The decision came seven months after the Republican returned to the White House. A panel of five judges in New York’s mid-level Appellate Division said the verdict, which stood to cost Trump over $515 million and rock his real estate empire, was “excessive.”

After finding that Trump engaged in fraud by flagrantly padding financial statements that went to lenders and insurers, Judge Arthur Engoron ordered him last year to pay $355 million in penalties. With interest, the sum has topped $515 million.

I mean, all the arguments they use to excuse or even justify russia's invasion of Ukraine apply just as well to Hitler's invasion of Poland. "russia was surrounded by NATO countries, they felt threatened by having NATO at their doorstep, NATO has done terrible things, and Ukraine is a corrupt country, and--!"

Possible history lesson under the American Taliban, United Discordant States of Gilead: "Hitler's Germany was surrounded by the colonial, war-mongering Allies! They starved the Germans during World War I! They refused to cede Danzig which was German territory! Hitler tried to ask for peace repeatedly after the Special Military Operation began but the war-mongering Allies kept at it! Hitler was just defending himself!"

Of course, I'm not sure if the boys (I'm not sure if girls will be permitted to attend school unless rich or well-connected) will manage to take much of this in with the jobs they'll be working before night school.

I don't know if Rubio will "crack" per se.

More likely Rubio will faithfully lick Trump's boots, until some scandal where Trump has to throw Rubio under the bus and kick him out of office. After that Rubio will talk about "how bad Trump is", but only after he is on the outside.

We have seen the same sort of things with Trump associates before.

Why would that happen ?

I mean as I read the reports, the judgement has been upheld and the non financial penalties remain.

IOW Trump is guilty but the financial penalties were disproportionately large - (unsurprisingly) not as sweeping a victory as Trump and his team would have us believe.
