Trump's Second Term

Kernen calling Trump out on a lie?

He's going to get fired isn't he?

KERNEN: The revision last year was in August. There was still plenty of time for voters to see those weren't real jobs.

TRUMP: No. After the election in November. I believe it was in November.

KERNEN: This was in August

TRUMP: The numbers were rigged

So after lowering them 1500% he will now triple the prices?

Trump: "We'll be putting an initially small tariffs on pharmaceuticals. But in one year, one in a half years maximum, it's gonna go to 150% and then it's gonna go to 250%, because we want pharmaceuticals made in our country."

So instead of getting my medications and $420 in cash from the pharmacy each month, I will get my medications and $1260 cash from the pharmacy each month!?! Trump is awesome!

Mary Trump, trump's niece, and others have observed, trump has stopped coloring his hair and also stopped using his 'fake tan' facial makeup. See recent photo below:

I'm beginning to get the feeling trump is not going to last for the full four years of his presidency. That'll probably be the end of maga. It is a cult, most definitely, and there's no heir apparent. Once trump goes his sycophants will start fighting over the scraps but none of them have the draw with the magamutts the way trump does (or did).

Hope so anyway.

Maybe these are just his autumn shades. Before he grows his full winter pelt.

Trump: "We have an opportunity in Texas to pick up five seats ... I got the highest vote in the history of Texas as you probably know. And we are entitled to five more seats."

"I won the presidential vote so I'm entitled to rig the congressional vote."

The path to dictatorship is paved with... well whatever the rose garden is paved with probably.

Junior will get utterly swallowed up by all the Trump-wanabees when Trump dies. The problem is as we saw in the 2024 primaries is that nobody has Trump's "it" factor where he keeps followers by being a rude, crude jerkass off a candidate. All of them try to be like him but fail is some obvious way.

Very few modern cults survive the death of the cult leader. The only exception would be Scientology but they had years of their leader being alive but in exile to set up the cult to survive him.
I wouldn't be one bit surprised of a Steve Bannon or Miller tried to leech onto Jnr like certain wannabe eminences grise did to the infant children of emperors in Rome during the not infrequent interregnums that polity had, and with similar lack of success.

So if I understand the rational here.

Medications aren't elective spend (in general), so people (or their insurers) will have to spend more money to get their medication. So more people either going without medication, or going bankrupt or significant rises in insurance fees.

The incentive for manufacturing in the US then will be the drugs can be sold at a higher price with a greater profit if manufactured in the US than if manufactured elsewhere and imported into the US. Clearly Big Pharma will like the opportunity to raise prices and increase profits in the US. US manufaturers will have to export at a lower price with less profit to sell overseas since the prices will be lower elsewhere without the added cost of the US tariff.

Trump on undocumented farm workers: "People that live in the inner city are not doing that work. They've tried, we've tried, everybody tried. They don't do it. These people do it naturally. Naturally ... they don't get a bad back, because if they get a bad back, they die."

You would think if this were true he would encourage more undocumented farm workers, since the death of aliens like that is his joy.

Look at the example of Venezuela. Chávez had a cult going, but when he died vice president Maduro took over, and managed to keep the power, despite being regarded as a grey person with no personality. I think Vance will have a very good chance if Trump dies before the election.

there isn't really a contingency for the VP not to take over and stay in power until the next term.
Of course, Trump's reanimated corpse will probably be elected by Republicans to Speaker of the House and Vance will step aside for it.

That seems to be the plan: Announce well in advance you are going to hit imported pharmaceuticals with import taxes and that will mean price rises. Those higher prices will make it cost-effective to begin US manufacture of some drugs for the domestic market, which are currently not commercially viable. As you say, they obviously won't be profitable for export if they aren't already.

The whole plan is predicated on drugs deliberately being made more expensive in the US. And, I should add, remaining more expensive.

As I recall, the proponents of the tariffs wheeze claimed that the painful cost of bringing manufacture back to the US by artificially raising prices with taxes will eventually be overtaken by the growth it stimulates, which will make everyone* wealthier and make the higher price of everything irrelevant.

*Not sure about the 'everyone' bit. Forget I said that.

Of course the pharma company bosses, if rational*, will have to balance that plan with the concurrently running MAHA plan of turning the US into a pharmaceutical desert.

*Something you cannot reliably accuse any member of the C-suite class of being.

This is where trump has taken us. You're comparing the United States with Venezuela. Maduro has remained in power by stealing elections. Maybe that's what's up next for the USA?
