Trump’s Gift to the Money Launderers
In the latest (non-GI-related) development, the Department of the Treasury announced this week that it would destroy the government’s registry of shell-company ownership. This is an anti-corruption database that Treasury is by law required to maintain, so that law enforcement can more easily “follow the money” when investigating crimes.

Even worse, the Trump administration will also destroy all the data it has already collected, so that no future presidential administration or local police department can use it, either.

“It’s like Trump ordering the deletion of the FBI’s entire fingerprint database,” former congressman Tom Malinowski (D-N.J.), a champion of the 2021 law that created the corporate registry, told The Bulwark.
This means Trump will not have to pardon as many criminals in the future. Maybe.

Just another potential future article of impeachment as far as I'm concerned. The idea that these things are somehow okay because it's out in the open is just ludicrous. But a lot of people seem to believe it. Of course were it a Democrat, there'd be all sorts of investigations and calls for resignation.

Your thread title has a mistake, it should read "Trump's latest gift to money launderers".

But yeah, destroying those records is pretty horrific.

Trump is a career criminal. His mentor was mob consigliere Roy Cohn. None of this should be surprising to anyone.
It doesn't.

I guess we should all go into money laundering and crypto scams to enrich ourselfes as his other criminal buddies and family does...

This is another example of how Trump is exerting executive power over the legislature. The law was a bipartisan law that was so well supported it overcame Trump's veto. The legislation hasn't been repealed, essentially the Treasury Dept is saying they won't do what congress legislated that they do.

as long as conservative voters are more concerned about dei and the trans than this kind of stuff they allow this to continue
