I'm not conviced he really wants the presidency. He didn't originally, and this way he gets to grift people forever. And I mean including postmortem.

If he runs and loses that's something his ego couldn't take.

I don't think he wanted it at first back in 2015. But now, after having a taste of real power and the adulation he got as POTUS? It dwarfs in comparison to what he had pre-presidency. It's like being satisfied with a single scoop of ice cream when you've had the whole damn ice cream store.
 
And he needs the Presidency to stay outta stir. And to boost the grift beyond the low rent dribbles he's subsisting on from his addled base of deplorable hicks.

Not to mention I'm fairly certain he'd like that POTUS immunity back. My educated guess is he gambled that seeking pre-emptive immunity could make him lose the election. Then instead of striking a quick self-pardon between the election loss and Biden swearing in, his cult and his ego convinced him he could still overturn the result.

But when 2024 comes and it looks like he'll lose again, he'll make an excuse about a rigged election before the votes are even cast.

Another lie, we can presume? What you're doing is spreading misinformation about mail-in voting just like Trump and his allies. The fact is that there has been NO evidence of any substantial voter fraud with mail-in voting and no more than with in-person voting which isn't substantial either. In fact, most illegal voting isn't 'fraud' at all but simple mistakes or ignorance. Another fact: Oregon has done exclusive mail-in voting for decades with almost no fraud cases. No fraud cases...that we know of... Dun dun duuuuun!

One thing IDs would definitely do is disenfranchise college students, who have one address for half the year and another (possibly multiple) for the other. My kids, who all lived on dorms and one in another State, had to come home on election day to their "permanent" address to be confident their vote was counted and not put in the provisional pile.

The sad part of this is that it's very difficult to separate serious posts from intentionally ridiculous posts now. Poe's law and all. I think you're taking the mickey, but then again, a post like this could well be serious from some members here.

Very tangentially related: we need a "GTFOOH" option on the ballot, if you truly don't want any of the candidates, which forces an election do-over. If ex-President Trump could actually get on the ballot, someone could just as well get General Mao's remains on the Dem ticket on the same election. Is that really a choice, or voting your conscience? I think not.

That's pretty dangerous though. If you skip your lesser-evil choice for the GTFO one and you split the vote, you're not going to get a majority.
