Cont: Trump’s Coup - Part 2

I have come to the opinion that police rules of engagement need to change such that police can not open fire unless fired upon.

However, there would need to be exceptions, what happened two days ago would be one of those exceptions.

Yes, there are red lines.

I hate paranoid conspiracy theories, but I have to wonder if whatever the hell they call the kGB nowdays did not plant a couple of professinal agents in the Maga mob in hopes something like this woud happen and they might score a intelligence coup...

Due diligence would be to assume it was possible. So usb devices will be checked, example is what looks like a normal usb lead with a built in keylogger, power sockets checked as there’s a fake cover plate you get that has a built in mike. There was enough time I am told for them to flash the firmware of any “smart” device. The list goes on. Some IT groups discussing this.

Keep an eye on the 17th and 19th, Lots of internet traffic that the Insurrectionist are planning something on those dates.

doubt much will come of it.
The FBI comically underestimated the threat on Wednesday, they won't do it again.

I'm picking a group wank.

Anything else will turn out to be like the Area 51 Naruto Run. A big, fat nothing.

Apparently it’s not as bad as that. Read this series of tweets by a specialist. https://twitter.com/ericgeller/status/1347226499930230785?s=12

“ So far, hearing that cyber risks of the Capitol attack were low.

* Congress isn't one big network
* Vulnerable machines held unclassified files
* Hill leaks so much already that truly sensitive stuff is walled off
* Rioters weren't there long enough for thorough, careful access”

We should plan and prepare expecting an armed attack on the inauguration. We just saw what thinking that there's something a Trump supporter won't do get you. We can't assume their kind have a bottom. There is simply no depth a Trump supporter won't sink to. Law enforcement needs to a) purge their ranks of enemy sympathizers and b) assume that there's no act of sedition or treason a Trump supporter won't engage in.

Did they, though? Has anything more come out about the claims that the Capitol police declined offers of support from other agencies, including the FBI?

It's the sort of stuff that's bound to spawn a conspiracy theory one way or another and absolutely everyone will be swift to cover their own ass, but the enquiry that will inevitably follow should be interesting to say the least.

Yesterday’s “The Daily” podcast titled “How They Stormed Congress” had reflections on that issue.

In brief, the D.C. Mayor was apprehensive about calling on Federal support after seeing what had happened with the BLM protests in the summer. You might remember the camo-dressed officers with no identification used what often appeared to be excessive force on often peaceful demonstrators. She had the foresight to have the D.C. National Guard mobilized, but when addition Guard troops were requested from Maryland, chaos and delay ensued.

Worth a listen.

I think you slightly missed the point.

There has been a couple of reports about how there wasn’t additional policing because they - the likes of the FBI - had no intelligence about any threats. Yet within minutes of this kicking off people were unearthing tweets, parler discussions, facebook posts, forums and so on all discussing violent actions and plans.

It seems once again that there is a blind spot in the USA policing community (FBI, police departments etc.) when it comes to the potential violence from right wing groups.

This was a massive Law enforcement failure - you don't prep Security for the most likely case, but the worst case.
Clearly, there was a blind spot when it came to imagining what the MAGAs would be willing to do.

If there is a counter-protest to the re-insurgence, it may get totally out of hand. I for one think the Inauguration will take place somewhere else, maybe planned ahead but more likely not announced beforehand.

Won't the symbolism of reacting out fear by changing how an inauguration is done be seen as unacceptable optics?

Biden's inauguration was done in private! It's obvious he knows he isn't the real president or he would have it in public!

I don't think basing one's strategy on second-guessing what idiots might think is the way to go. Moving the inauguration and having the insurrectionists met instead by a sizeable tactical force seems like a good chess move to me.
