Trump's Coup d'état.

And this is one the problems; total despair "we are going fascists and there is nothing we can do about it"

Oh, certain things can and will be done. But they will involve a lot of violence and spilled blood. They will call it second civil war, but it will be more like Troubles in Ireland.

This is where outcome is uncertain and not set in stone. But yes, I consider events leading to this state of affairs inevitable.

Unless you have some proposition on how to stop... no, not stop, reverse USA's rot. I literally see no way out of that.

Only theoretical way I can think would be dems winning elections many, many times in row with full control (required due to Republican permaobstruction). And that is impossible for various reasons, some legitimate, other being result of anti-democratic shenanigans of Republicans.

I am open to consider any other scenario that makes USA more democratic (whatever that even means, lol) while avoiding bloodshed. I won't hold breath, though.

attiude which seems to be "cool" and popular just plays into the extremists hands.
Yeah, yeah, if we do X then terrorists already won.

All you better be the ones on the front lines when the revolution you keep wishing for finally comes around.

The "front lines" will just be some random WalMart or synagogue full of random people targeted by a right wing gunman.

The radical right is all about stochastic terrorism.

I don't wish it. I guess you think since I predict certain things in future, I desire them. You are... how to say it nicely so mods won't scold me again... quite mistaken.

Not everyone forgets that, its just that Trump is exactly what lefties and dems want republicans and conservatives to be. There hasn't been a GOP candidate since I've been voting that hasn't been called a racists or a crypto-fascist. Biden said Romney was going to put black people back in chains. Romney, about as milk toast and inoffensive of republican as can be. Lets not forget the outrage storm over his strapping a dog to his station wagon in the 80s back when I was riding around in the back of my parents truck in much less safe conditions.

I don’t understand this point. Lefties have been wrongfully accusing average conservatives of being racists and fascists, so the Dems are really at fault here when average conservatives let one completely take over their party?

For me personally, it’s not so much a fine line between the hypocrisy between the parties as a gulf. For instance, there a gulf between how well intended student loan forgiveness is vs how acceptable it is to try and contact hostile foreign governments to help you win domestic elections. And the thing is, liberals don’t defend that nearly as fervently anyway.

The Right really thinks that if a Leftie calls someone a racist too much, the other side has earned the right to be just a little bit more racist than before to even it out.

"Evil" and "Over-reactions to evil" are not opposing forces that cancel each other out.

I don't care if every Liberal is jumping up and down screaming the word "Racist!" over and over, nonstop, 24/7. That doesn't give the Right a "Get out of Jail Free Card" to play to get out of actually being racist or the right to be "just a little bit more racist" as a way to get back at the Left.

When you are charged with 7 murders, but the jury only convicts you of 6, you don't get a free murder on your scoresheet.

Like demanding the death penalty for the innocent central park 5?

What stated opinions did he make that were liberal?

Sadly, plenty of Democrats were playing the "tough on crime" game back then, including our president-elect.

I don't remember Democrats taking out full-page ads in newspapers calling for the death penalty in response to the Central Park 5 arrests, especially in our Dear Leader's eloquent and delicate phraseology.

/false equivalence

And I think the GOP suffering a fracture is a real possiblity. Trump just unloaded on McConnnell, and we now have a battle for leadership in the GOP.

And McConnell has challenged Trump to a duel on Jan 6th. He has demanded no senator take up the challenge to the EC count which apparently the House Republicans are planning.

It needs at least one Senator to join the challenge.

I grew up in NYC as Trump was becoming famous. Most of his stated positions, such as they were, were at least somewhat liberal, at least socially.

From: BBC
(Trump) has changed his view on abortion, going from pro-choice in 1999 to pro-life with exceptions today.

From: wikipedia
...in April 1990, Trump told a crowd of 700 people that U.S. drug enforcement policy was "a joke", and that: "We're losing badly the war on drugs. You have to legalize drugs to win that war.

Of course with Trump, not only do you have to worry about him shifting positions over time, you also have to worry about him giving contradictory claims within a short period. (i.e. outright lying)
