True, given that only a little over a quarter of Congress is currently discussing doing exactly that, it's totally crazy to suggest they could find a few more co-conspirators.

I think that would screw it up right there. Actually requesting that someone commit a crime constitutes entrapment, doesn't it?
 
This latest alternate elector stuff is basically treason. They'll never get prosecuted for it, but they ought to.

I think that only applies to the crime the might be enticed into committing.

I’m pretty sure open warrants for unrelated crimes would be fair game.

But entrapment might apply regarding “background checks” in so far as crimes related to the registering of the illegal weapons was concerned.

Treason is very specifically defined in our legal system to mean aid to a foreign enemy that we are at war with.

This would better be characterized as sedition, a plot to overthrow the legitimate government. No idea how far this has to go to be considered a legally actionable attempt of insurrection.

Anyone can meet up at their local Denny's and declare themselves the real electors. Trying to enforce that fraudulent authority is probably what crosses into criminal action.

Yes; there are actually 10 crimes under the Treason and Sedition statute.
 
So I thought I would take a dive into Twitter - something I don't often do - to see what people are yammering about.

It seems that the latest right-wheeze is to change their handles to things like:

Having read into it a bit, I think SuburbanTurkey is basically correct. It's more sedition than treason at this point. I'm generally not a fan of the way sedition laws have been enforced in the US, so now I'm conflicted because sedition can be patriotic, but **** these guys regardless.

Never liked that phrase much--the way it's applied suggests the rats were to blame.

So more like ship vandals deserting the ship they vandalized into sinking.

It's worth noting that back in September Barr instructed federal prosecutors to charge anyone protesting a hypothetical Trump victory with sedition.

Ah, it was protestors at the time. I could have sworn he had also suggested the charges against anyone protesting the election outcome in the future.

EDIT: I may have been recalling an article like this one.

Barr reportedly has future demonstrations in mind as well, warning U.S. attorneys on the call that he anticipated that protests could intensify ahead of the election.
