Trump Supporters: What could he do to lose your support?

How does reducing the federal government to nothing coincide with Trump's desire for more power? Trump will never give up any power he has.
With no federal government in the way, he becomes the sole arbiter of who gets government funds. If you want billions for an infrastructure project you have to bend at the knee to Trump personally. If you need relief after a natural disaster Trump makes the decision and gets the credit personally.

In all cases he gets a cut of the money.

Well, not Trump personally. The people who will get the money are his backers in Project 2025, a bunch of religious grifters more capable than Trump, and Putin. Why? Donny owes Pootie billions to keep his head above water...and still on his shoulders.

He has enormous power. Just doing away with the administrative state was never available till 1 Musk type of funding 2 the current Supreme Court which tells Trump he can undo any law and refuse to follow what Congress tells him to "administer." He looks forward to his future status as Savior of America. The liberarians and corporations running America from 2028 on will put up statues and write endless books and legends explaining just how clever he was by appearing dumb.
Future workers in the executive branch will no longer swear an oath to the United States, but instead to the president.

This sort of power, though it really does not allow the president to create anything. But destruction is power:
Thousands of workers at the Washington, DC, headquarters of the US Agency for International Development cleared out their offices yesterday, as the shutdown of the agency by the Trump administration continued to advance. The terminations follow the cancellation of roughly 90% of USAID-funded work around the globe.

Trump's desire for power is not necessarily pure governmental power. He can acquire more power as President by crippling executive branch agencies and transferring their roles directly to the White House. He can acquire more economic and social power by crippling enforcement. This naturally reduces the governmental power of the executive by agreeing not to enforce such things as environmental and financial regulations. This lets certain private interests reduce their costs by ignoring those regulations. That will then make them beholden to Trump and create the incentive for them to support efforts to keep him in office and to expand his power.

I'm genuinely curious.
I doubt that. I'll answer your question, but I doubt your motivation.

Let's leave aside the ridiculous, like actually shooting someone on Fifth Avenue; and the already happening, like throwing Ukraine under the bus.
How do you know he's "throwing Ukraine under the bus"? What actual evidence do you have that he's doing that? Is it just remotely possible that Trump is using common posturing negotiating tactics to allow Putin to save face while ensuring that Ukraine keeps most/all of its territory and remains independent in for the long term? Has it occurred to any of you that this is what he's doing?

And ignore the possibility of his turning liberal, or gay, or atheist or something.
This is silliness. Obviously, if Trump turned liberal, he would lose conservative support and would lose at least some centrist support. Many Trump supporters would not care if he declared he was gay or atheist as long as he continued to support the main policies on which he ran.

What could he do that you would consider stepping over the line? Openly allying with Russia?
It would depend on the issue/circumstances. During the war on terrorism, the U.S. and Russia sometimes had a common enemy. If Trump forces Ukraine into a peace deal that leads to Russian control of Ukraine, I would loudly condemn him for the betrayal. Does this mean I would start opposing him on every issue? No, of course not. But I would certainly say that his betrayal of Ukraine was disgraceful--again, if he in fact does betray Ukraine.

Invading another country to seize territory?
Well, again, it would depend on the circumstances. Generally speaking, I would oppose such an action, but I can envision a few scenarios where such an intervention would be justified, or at least understandable.

Declaring himself President for life?
Yes, obviously, that would be a deal breaker. I would support his impeachment and removal from office if he attempted such a move.

I promise I will read all responses, even if you are on the list that shall not be named. Maybe even take you off of it.
Anti-Trumpers: Let's give them a while before piling on, okay?
Right, let's let the knuckle-dragging Neanderthals have their say before we deign to grace them with our infallible woke enlightenment and brilliance. Sheesh, listen to yourself.

You folks might, just might, want to keep in mind that Kamala Harris lost the popular vote by over 2 million votes, lost every swing state, and lost the Senate. You might also want to keep in mind that 27 out of our 50 states have elected Republican governors. Apparently there are tens of millions of Neanderthals voting in America.

Could you elaborate further on the tactics Trump and Vance's used on Friday's meeting with Zelenskyy?

Is it a common negotiating tactic to open with "Beg and give me X for nothing in return"?

Also, why would Putin stop his invasion of Ukraine if Zelenskyy had signed over a large chunk of Ukraine's mineral wealth in return for no security guarantees from Trump?

Do you accept the fact that Russia invaded Ukraine?

Do you accept the fact that Putin has repeatedly gone on to do what he said he would not do?

Do you think Putin respects Trump?

I can assure you from my own experience as a Trump campaign volunteer in 2016 and 2020 and in the last 10 weeks of the 2024 election (1) that a large portion of Trump supporters dislike how he conducts himself and do not agree with all of his positions, (2) that they would prefer a different GOP candidate, (3) that they vote for him because they view the alternative as far worse.

Until late August 2024, I was backing RFK Jr. for president and was serving as a volunteer on RFK Jr.'s Virginia campaign team. I lost much of my enthusiasm for RFK Jr. when he declared he would seek to cut the defense budget by 50%. I knew such a cut would never get through Congress, but I was troubled that Bobby would propose such an unrealistic and dangerous defense reduction.

i would hope we could agree that point 3 is kind of nuts in retrospect

If Trump ambushed a foreign ally and tried to shake-down a foreign ally in an attempt to make them surrender to Russia on live television, he wouldn't lose support from the Maga/Nazis. The would cheer him

I know, it sounds like a ridiculous hypothesis, because it is so absurd....

This is a retarded take.

The president of the US could simply assert that we would support Ukraine until it is once again unified, and that we will supply all necessary arms and other aid necessary to accomplish that outcome.

Why lie to Putin, when the truth will serve just as well, and even better?

No. A 0.1% chance that someone in your bathroom may have been born a different gender than the one they identify with is far worse than the total dismantling of Social Security, Medicare and the diminution of the US on the world stage.
