Trump runs for POTUS/ Trumped Up! Part VII

I don't think Trump has an anti-gay agenda. For that matter, I don't think he has much of an agenda about anything other than his own ego. But that's for another thread. But it is without question that many of his congressional Republicans do. I expect legislation hostile to gays to come out of the House and Senate and I expect Trump will be happy to sign it. Does that count?

His VP however, who appears to be for all practical purposes the REAL President in the Trump administration, has a very explicit anti-gay and anti-women history and there's no reason to suspect he might change.

Yes. I don't expect that. But we'll just have to see.

But let's not interpret laws too liberally as "anti-gay". For instance, I'm still somewhat befuddled by the furor over "bathroom laws". But that's a topic for another thread.

The bathroom laws made it a crime for most transgender people to use the bathroom where they would be safest. It was a deliberate and calculated effort to make it clear they are not welcome in public.

There are true anti-gay and anti-abortion Republican lawmakers for sure, but far less than you would think. They're used more as a wedge issues then anything else. And demographics and the entertainment industry has done a good job of making the gay issue effective any more. Most politicians are pragmatists above anything else. Often times they will give voice or disingenuous support to issues they could care less about. I can imagine some of Bible Belt politicians pushing to roll back the LGBT advances, but overall it's not going to happen because other pols know it's a double edged sword and even one that is much more likely to hurt them than help them.

I'm much more concerned about abortion rights. I see trouble for women with unwanted pregnancies in rural states.

The whole "bathroom" part of the bill is almost a red herring. The real impact against the LGBT community and minorities in general is buried at the end of the bill and has been well hidden by all the faux outrage about perverts spying on little girls.

That part of the bill pretty much categorically and specifically strips local jurisdictions from making any rules protecting minority rights, and at the same time largely eliminates recourse in the state courts to complaints about discrimination.

That all got stuffed into the bill that the legislature Republicans rammed through quite literally in the dark of night.

But conservatives never bring up that part. It's all about protecting our wimminfolk from preverts.

And it is entirely on topic. It is exactly this sort of 'hands in the cookie jar' kind of legislation that an out-of-control legislature can bulldoze through with the complicity of an executive like Trump.

Yeah, it might ... maybe ... get straightened out sooner or later in the courts, assuming the courts haven't been too stuffed with right wingnuts, but that doesn't do anything for the people who are harmed in the meantime.

And with Trump in the White House there is every reason to expect more crap legislation just like HB2.

Only their effects won't be confined to just one state.

He left it? The Democratic nominee had 2 million more votes than the GOP. The Democrats gained seats in both the House and the Senate and Obama wasn't running. I absolutely love how you bend the truth.

While it is disappointing that we lost the Presidential election, I feel fairly confident that the Billionaire's agenda will be soundly rejected in the next election. Watch what happens when 20 million Americans have their health care taken from them. Do you really think all these people will act like Kevin Bacon in Animal House? I doubt it.

Good God! Kevin Bacon was in Animal House!

This is a life changing realization.

As halleyscomet correctly points out, our next VP is rabid about such issues. And he will be a VP like Cheney was a VP.

He has been for sure...as the governor of Indiana...the buckle of the Bible belt. But it wouldn't shock me at all that his position evolves considering now he has a national office and clearly Trump could care less about this issue. I'd bet money that while Pence might encourage the religious zealots, in the end he'll do what is practical. But hey, I could be wrong. I was with Trump being elected.

I rubbed one out, and I still have this damn schadenboner. Will you guys stop it already? I'm starting to get light-headed.

The least competent man ever elected to the presidency and you treat it like a *********** joke. It's not funny. Our nation has taken a drastic turn for the worse when such a pathetic ******* is actually elected.

Now wonder you always did so lousy at the "Six Degrees" game...

Indeed! One step to Belushi? There is no god.

Okay, that's not fair. Bacon was awesome in Tremors, which was an awesome movie. For that reason alone, maybe he ought to be near Belushi in the pantheon.

The "conservatives" rubbing it in is just a form of rubbing one out. Their frail self image was so damaged by the one-two punch of first a negro in the whitehouse (commie liberal atheist Muslim), then a non-penis-haver daring to challenge the obviously superior penis-havers, that electing a lying, groping, self-dealing two-faced backstabber bearing the Almighty R is a much needed ego boost.

I think this election proved that misogyny is on many levels more potent in America than racism.

It's not surprising you two are still missing why you lost.
