Trump hasn't changed, lies about his inauguration crowd size

On his first full day in office, President Trump visited the Central Intelligence Agency’s headquarters to express his gratitude for the intelligence community, which he had repeatedly railed against and recently likened to Nazis.

What Trump delivered Saturday was a campaign-style, stream-of-consciousness airing of grievances — at the Senate for delaying confirmation of his nominees; at critics for questioning whether he is smart and vigorous; and at journalists, whom he called “the most dishonest human beings on earth” and accused of lying about the size of his inauguration crowd.

Trump claimed falsely that the crowd for his swearing-in stretched down the National Mall to the Washington Monument and totaled more than 1 million people. It did not. Trump accused television networks of showing “an empty field” and reporting that he drew just 250,000 people to witness Friday’s ceremony.

“It looked like a million, a million and a half people,” Trump said, falsely claiming that his crowd “went all the way back to the Washington Monument.”

During his 2009 inaugural address, President Obama’s crowd extended that far, and photos from that day show a crowd clearly much larger than the one that showed up for Trump.

“It’s a lie,” Trump said of the crowd estimates for Friday’s event. “We caught [the media]. We caught them in a beauty.”

Jonathan Freedland says it better than i ever could:

Well, what were you expecting? Did you somehow think that the Donald Trump of the long, bitter campaign of 2016 would be miraculously transformed in the Washington rain, emerging as a kinder, gentler man, ready to serve as healer of the nation and humble steward of the free world? Because if you did, you were sorely disappointed.

Of course he didn’t change. The naive thought he might shift a year ago, when he became the Republican frontrunner, or in the summer, when he became that party’s nominee, or in November, when he won the election. And some, finally, clung to the hope that he would “pivot”, undergoing a metamorphosis as he placed his hand on the Bible and took the oath to become America’s 45th president. But they were wrong.

I don't understand it. I want to keep on open mind on the new administration, but this is so idiotic! They're trying to claim inflated numbers when it's obvious that attendance was low. Is this what is to be expected by them?

It's pretty obvious where we are going from here isn't it. First day of his presidency he starts off with a lie.

I wonder if we are going to get many pro Trumps posting here. I think it unlikely as the ability to read and write is needed.

His pee-pee is feeling small and shriveled due to the hordes of women all over the country who came out today to dwarf his inauguration crowd by orders of magnitude.

Joined by hordes of supporting protesters around the world.

Yep. He's started a YUGE movement all right. This particular form of movement is commonly called "backlash".

A YUGE "nasty woman" backlash. Here's Madonna, F-bombing Trumpkins on prime time TV.

Don't click on that white button if you can't take the F-bomb.

Lol

He certainly lives rent free, seriously though. I doubt he's feelin small after the massive victory he's had. The agony of defeat again?

When you figure out he really does have pathologic narcissism, it will all make sense to you.

Disinformation and sewing mistrust of the free press is one of the first steps towards dictatorship.

I go where the evidence leads.

He went there specifically to mend fences, but couldn't stay on message for even a few minutes before contriving to use the "dishonest" media as a fallacious springboard to start bragging about the YUGE size of his inaugural crowd, and about how GOD held back the rain until The Only One finished his speech.

That was an incoherent limp pee-pee speech. Plain and simple. With undertones of a budding messianic complex.

Here's former CIA director John Brennan's derisive take on it:

Is this what is to be expected by them?

Of course.

If the election has proven anything it is that Trump doesn't really care about anything. He doesn't really care about the welfare of America, it's people or even himself. The only real thing he cares about strongly is his ego. Hence why, instead of acting like a grown up and simply ignoring the completely unimportant comparison of the different sized crowds, he quickly needs to publicly validate himself by any means necessary.

Call him a monster, rapist or whatever and he won't care the slightest but if you happen to belittle him he lashes out violently.

By any measure it was a small victory: electoral, popular, favorability.

The reason the inaugural crowd was so small and today's crowd is so big is sinple: Trump is a profoundly unpopular president.

The USA as just elected a profoundly emotionally disturbed individual to the Presidency. And I suspect that many of his "supporters" in Congress and in his cabinet recognize it and are just as frightened by it as are we "liberals." Many conservatives may see him as an opportunity to get their political agenda advanced, but I am willing to bet that his mental instability and overt craziness keeps them awake at night.

He was primarily elected by rural America and they just didn't go to Washington in enormous numbers. It's not that hard to figure it out.

He won the election and that ought to be fine with him. But he wants to win everything and be the biggest everything. Nothing is really lost if his crowd is smaller than for Obama but his mind thinks that way. He's compelled to misrepresent and exaggerate. His supporters aren't judging him on that basis and he knows that.

I don't think he's even going to try to win over his detractors. It's probably going to be like this for his whole term. Trump can't be forced or persuaded to be honest or to hold his tongue. So it seems.

This is true. He will not make efforts to get the public to like him, or to pass policies that are popular. He will just convince himself that everyone loves him and his policies.

Especially since there are so many better tacks they could have taken. Is his Breitbart Capo Team sleeping? They could've made-up six different lies as to why there was no turnout. (The first one with some support.)

> The weather. We were afraid that Connie Ann Kellway would melt if she got wet, along with the rest of the Bimbo SpokesWitches.
> The threat of terrorist feminazi mooslim mexicans.
> We couldn't find our women folk to mind the crabgrass. Seems they were all off to some other march.
> A dog ate my homework.
> Obama left the economy in such a mess that our real supporters, the forgotten little man, couldn't afford the trip.

Instead, with glaring evidence to the contrary, they have to go with Mr. I'm A Winner's lies. What particularly rankles him, of course, is that the comparisons are to the inauguration of the Dread Obama.

Plenty of usually not stupid people have voted for Trump: they've done so in the expectation that Trump's campaign lies were nothing but a tactic to get elected, a necessity in a pro-Clinton media world.
But they will not accept the same low standards of Truth from a president.
The Trump White House has managed to lose its credibility as a source of accurate news on day 2! That must be a new record.

How long do you think it will be before Trump creates the Ministry of Truth?

I can't give a timeline on that, but sequentially such an occurrence should be expected to shortly precede Trump being declared incompetent and removed from office.
