In a hypothetical match-up, the latest poll shows Trump beating Clinton. Granted it is a Fox poll, and they tend to skew to the right (but the last Fox poll had Clinton winning by 11 points). The latest CNN poll only has Clinton up by 1 point.

Hillary supporters, why is Clinton not cleaning Trump's clock? Clinton doesn't poll any better against Trump than Bernie. What is the rationale for nominating her?

That she is a moderate between two perceived extremes?

ETA: Perceived as moderate.

She didn't turn off the lights and hide when the election came around, unlike everyone else. From the outside it looks like the democrats collectively don't want to follow Obama any more than the GOP wanted to clean up after Dubya. So the only ones running are Hillary, who has wanted the job since she was 16, and Sanders, who apparently thinks this weak field is his chance.

Hillary will "bring out the vote" for the GOP like nothing we've seen before. Even running a doddering old commie wouldn't freak them out as much as running a qualified and intelligent career politician with a decidedly Centrist tack to her sails.

I oppose her not as much for her policies as for strategic reasons. We will have a Republican president at the end of the year.

My recollection is that according to Fox polls back in 2012, Mitt Romney is now President of the USA.

Then go with the CNN poll that has her up by one. Either Trump's appeal is a lot broader than people think, or Hillary is disliked so much, people won't vote for her, even against a lunatic like Trump.

A poll this far out does not mean a whole helluva lot. I do not think it is worrisome for Clinton. First of all, the Presidential election is not a single election; it's 51 elections. Democrats match up increasingly well in the Electoral College. Second, as the election draws near, Independents will pay more attention and probably find Trump less attractive.

But in any case, we're getting ahead of ourselves. Neither Trump nor Clinton have won the nominations of their respective parties. We also have yet to see how the Republican establishment will cope with Trump as their nominee.

Who were they polling? Or better yet who are they not polling?

There's no way that Donald Trump can win given that he has alienated pretty much everybody who is not a white male.

IMO its going to be harder for Trump when he gets the nomination, he'll have to start running towards the middle. It will be interesting to see how he maneuvers that. Remember he's running this campaign like a business, getting the nomination is the first step, winning the presidency requires a whole different playbook.

its a January poll before the first Republican primary. You are welcome to get really excited or upset. The media loves you for it.

Declare bankruptcy and start over?

What is the rationale for nominating her?

She'll do as she's told and Bernie won't, hence, Billary at all costs?

That's the only rationale I can think of, because the Democraps look like they're trying to snatch a loss from the jaws of a certain win.

I've been watching the match-ups at RCP and the biggest difference every time I've looked for a while now is how much better Bernie does in the match-ups than Billary.

I'll be laughing my tits off if she wins the Dem and loses the election.

I'd be asking some pretty serious questions at why on earth you'd pick Clinton when she is already showing as a loser to Cruz & Rubio, and has been for some time.

Don't you think that would work both ways?

Nope. Democrat voters other than radical feminists would like to see something other than "but she's a woman!" as qualifying characteristics.

I have no idea what she wants to accomplish with her presidency other than Achievement Unlocked: Penis-less President!

She can bring a group of voters into play exclusively by having a vag. That number will be overpowered by voters who freak out over her Being Clinton, Having Vag or Scary Librul characteristics, none of which attract a significant number of on the fence moderates.

In a rational competition between equally competent professionals evaluated on measurable characteristics she stands a chance. This is not that election.

This is the bit I really don't get. Why would Democrats be willing to risk getting President Trump just because they don't like her. Honestly, can President Clinton #2 really be worse than President Trump, and if not, then surely you go for the best option.

Both polls from Fox are quite different.

For starters, the sampling method gave them the highest percentage of Republicans that I've seen in polls (that is a constant for Fox's).

On the other hand the more recent poll you mentioned manages to elicit negative replies about how Obama and Democrats have managed illegal immigration and ISIS and immediately asks about Trump vs. Clinton, and always in that order.

Not strangely he's ahead in Foxland.

Hasn't nobody, really, nobody developed any suspicion from all polls, wherever are done, whenever are don, whichever is polled, having about the same margin of "not decided"? In the rest of the world that works in a quite different way. That's the magic of bipartisanism and polls designed to exacerbate it: people has always certainty, but they'll think it better later.

By rule of thumb, Fox's latest poll made with the questionnaire used in the previous poll had had Clinton winning by 3 or 4 points, and that in the republicanized universe of that sampling (the more you spend in phone, the more probable you are in the poll)
