Troops get Rough wh Rumsfeld.

Personally my favorite part was when he was trying to explain how we just don't have the manufacturing facilities to
produce the demand for all the armor necessary!(after 2 years)

SURPRISE SURPRISE SURPRISE :wink8: ( my gomer pile initations)

THey've been giving all the tax breaks to all the mfgs to ship plants and jobs overseas, telling us how wonderfull it is for us that they're doing it. Now it comes back to bite our soldiers in the ass, (which is just the first wave of reality) soon to bite the rest of us.

But hay on planet x this makes perfect sense.

hello boys and girls
today's word is "expendable"
can you say that with me?
good

The version we have on the media here is not the first time the question was asked, with 'cheering', but the one after Rumsfield asked the soldier to repeat the question.
Everyone else getting the second version?

"Why do we soldiers have to dig through local landfills for pieces of scrap metal and compromised ballistic glass to armour our vehicles ... (scrap) that has already been shot up, dropped, busted, picking the best out of this scrap to put on our vehicles to take into combat?"
Thus spoke Fred Flintstone

Funny how our troops seem to be doing a better job than our press when it comes to asking Q's.

Obviously this soldier is a liberal commie traitor who hates america.

To Rumfeld's credit, he did ask for tough questions from the soldiers. Whether he really thought they would take him up on it though...who knows? :D

I was so proud of the bearing, professionalism, and articulation of all the soldiers who asked questions.

While Rumsfeld couldn't have realistically said any more than he did at the time, there is no excuse for the questions asked to not be thoroughly and comprehensively addressed within a week or two, by either a remedy to the situation or a detailed explanation why a remedy is not possible.

A responsible media would keep the administration's and the pentagon's feet to the fire until this occured.

I know I'm going to...

I agree with the Bear.

However, I have to laugh at the laughter of the lefties on this issue. After all wasn't it the Clinton admin that explained that they were trying not to be "provocative" in turning down local commanders requests for APC's in Somalia.

So, here's the reality equation you lefties have come up with: GWB and Rummy didn't have enough armor to send to Iraq? Therefore GWB=bad. Or better yet, comically incompetent.

Whereas, Clinton and Les Aspin were fighting...ahem..."a more sensitive war"....therefore the armor our troops were actually asking for = bad. Or better yet, "not PC".

Where's my irony meter??? Man JREF's slow today! ....

well???..... (crickets)

ahh there it is! :i: accurate as ever...see, it pegs at 11.

I was wondering how long it would take for the "It's Clinton's fault" BS showed up.

"Hear that sound Mister Anderson? That is the sound of inevitability"

And if it doesn't show up?

Will you apologize for your BS?

Damn, I'm good...

Bush responds to soldiers' questions

- Good! I'm glad he decided to do it now rather than months ago after debating Kerry and getting slammed on it.

- Okay. So let's see. Who gets the contract for surplus HUMVEE body armor? Dick, any suggestions?

He thinks that pointed out that in our last significant conflict, we didn't have this armor is some kind of attempt at blaming clinton.

I'm offended that he would assume that I'm some kind of drooling dumbass who actually thinks that clinton wouldn't want to equipt our soldiers with the best possible tools.

nm, just saw rikzilla's post. I'll take back my post. Although he does point out a good double standard that is pretty consistently applied. Clinton awards haliburton no bid contract=good...

Geez, and the Bushites flipped out over Kerrys "Wrong war, wrong time" comment as being anti-troop.

Ayup. And lefties used to say about how great it would be if the Air Force had to hold a bake sale to buy a bomber.

Well, folks, guess what!

Um, the soldiers just asked these questions days ago: stop-loss; upgrading vehicles in the field from landfills; guard units being issued inferior material compared to regular army.

Which of these exactly are you referring to from a few months ago during the debates?

And what particular BS of my authorship are you referring to?

Show me where, please...

Zilla illustrated hypocrisy by making a comparison. I see no one directing blame.

Quick correction, the soldiers asked about stop-loss and ways to improve morale. The questions about landfills and body armor and such were worded by someone in the press, and asked through a soldier, since press weren't allowed to ask questions.

Body armor has always been the press's obsession. I'm not sure why they think they are the best to judge the use of resources.

Can you provide a link as evidence of this?

Keep your eye on the ball, here, rik!

What happened in Somalia was dispicable. Two wrongs don't make a right.

I think the issue at hand is Rumfeld's incredibly flippant response. It raises many questions, in my mind, about his attitudes towards the war and his thought processes.

GWB's response in the link posted by Kodiak was much better.
