Transfer factor

So, you're suggesting that this nebulous "transfer factor" is a macromolecule which is too large to be absorbed without digestion. In which case, what's the point in the first place?

In the case which prompted the OP, the cat in question seemed to be getting its version of "transfer factor" as some sort of general immune stimulant, possibly in response to a (possibly erroneous) report of a low neutrophil count. There seemed to be no suggestion of antigen specificity at all, in fact quite the contrary. And I can see no real indication of antigen specificity in the really woo transfer factor advertisements, indeed part of its charm seems to be that it is marketed as curing absolutely anything (even being able to treat both immunodeficiency and autoimmune disease!).

Nevertheless Andrew Wakefield is very definitely claiming measles virus specificity. And then proceeds straight into the same territory as the woos by invoking colostrum as the magic delivery system. Very strange person.

I suppose the point is that you don't have to have those nasty vaccines. Just eat/drink(?) some safe (pasteurised?) goat colostrum instead.

Seems to me that the people who are antivaccine are often anti-pasteurisation as well. :D You know, it's unnatural, so it must be safer not to do it....

I wish them joy of their tuberculosis and their brucellosis and so on.
