I have a lot of people I go to when I need help with lucidity. You are not one of them.

No one has had any trouble understanding my statement. You offered nothing but more errant pedantry, and I don't intend to argue with you about it.

Please refrain from pointlessly bothering people.
 
I wasn't arguing with you John, I was disagreeing with Garrette. It was your original statement so I assumed you would be the last word on what you intended. Why are you being rude? I don't have any ill will towards you, I don't think we've ever had a conversation that I recall. Have I offended you?

He made it clear you were wrong yet there is no apology or even admission here.
 
I have no issue with apologizing to John, I just don't understand why he's angry. I have no reason to argue with him about anything.

I actually have to disagree with John Jones here. I find that errant pedantry, such as this and this post is rather amusing and fun; especially when the poster does everything in their power to run away from the fact that their attempts at pedantry were in error, and starts all sorts of derails to avoid having to admit their error.
 
I don't have any issue with confusing arrant and errant or admitting that I was wrong about it. I don't understand why it made John angry when I asked him what he meant or why he would assume I would want to argue with him. I don't know him and I don't know you either, for that matter. As for derailing the thread, it looks like it derailed about 5 pages back.

abaddon has it right. Jodie says she has no problem apologizing, yet there is demonstrably not only a lack of apology but a lack of a simply admission of error.

Well, to be fair, your comment quoted my post, and I don't see what is a) errant or b) pedantic about it. Additionally, while I understood the text of your post, I didn't understand the context in which you intended it. I asked for clarification, and you've failed to provide any.

I am not John Jones, and I did not participate in that part of the conversation, but here is how I took it (NB: I am not commenting on whether I think JJ was correct; I am merely commenting on what I took him to mean):

1. It wasn't just that statement of yours to which he was referring; it was to the whole discussion about that particular slang and how it is used

2. He thought your discussion was of a minor point not affecting the substance of the discussion and not adding value to it and was, therefore, pedantic

3. He further thought that your point was wrong, i.e., your apparent insistent on others' usage of the slang was wrong was in fact wrong itself, and therefore it was not only pedantry but mistaken pedantry

Okay. I agree it was part of a derail. Beyond that, I didn't insist, I merely pointed out that American usage and British usage seem to differ. Language is funny stuff.

John Jones, I'm sorry that I FTFY'ed your Errant Pedantry comment. Although I don't understand why that would make someone angry, whether they were right or wrong, is beside the point. It wasn't necessary for you to stalk me in the Idiosyncratic Thread and quote one of my posts with the word reported but I'll overlook that and chalk it up to rage on your part.

I'm not sure I follow what you are saying about Emily's Cat above. I was just scanning along and saw Errant and genuinely thought it was supposed to be Arrant. I had no reason to deliberately upset John Jones, as I said , I don't know him. I was simply correcting what I thought was the wrong description of pedantry.

I thought only people in the bigfoot threads lost their kool aid over pedantry, is this a common occurrence in all threads on ISF? Or do you consider this a bigfoot thread since OS is the OP?
