As we all know, the job of a Presidental press secretary is to spin events.

Tony Snow, Bush's Information Minister has been declaring that the President is perfectly within his rights invoking executive privilege in the current attorney general investigation.

Well, how times change, see the link below and see what Snow said about the Clinton's potental use of execute privilege.

What a flaming hypocrite, not surprising, but it's so nice to see it pointed out so clearly.

I think what it comes down to is whether or not this is a criminal investigation. In the US vs. Nixon case cited by your source, it was a special prosecutor demanding the testimony/documents, same as in the Clinton case. There is no special prosecutor (yet) in the Bush/Gonzalez case, so his claim of executive privilege may well be justified.

Nothing in Snow's earlier editorial had anything to do with Nixon nor does Snow mention anything about criminal proceedings or special prosecutors. His general terms in the editorial are exactly opposite of what he says today.

He still was commenting on a criminal investigation, why would he have to re-state that in the editorial?

Here's a clip from CBS This Morning where Tony Snow is interviewed and his quote on executive privilege is brought up.

BTW, as much as I disagree with the White House's and Tony Snow's position shouldn't they be allowed to make their point without being interrupted 30 times by the interviewer (Harry Smith). Very annoying interview.

How is he a hypocrite? He is no longer a member of the fifth estate, whose job description is to be a bit contrarian regarding the government. (Skeptical even, if one is a good journalist. Ya know, like Joe Galloway or Bob Woodward . . . )

His role and duties as a newsman are quite different from his current job, his obligations to his boss, as press secretary, which is as official apologist for all and sundry matters of policy and action.

If you want to opine that in a general sense Tony Snow is full of feces, and has made that his profession, I won't disagree.

If I were a cab driver, and I then became a cop, would I be a hypocrite to ticket cab drivers for nuisance parking violations?

I was going to bring up that Snow is only spouting the Bush line now and is not at liberty to talk about his opinions or positions. But I doubt Snow will fall back on that defense. :)

I can agree with some of what you said, but I consider this more than a nuisance parking violation.
