Tom Cruise gets it in the face!

I wouldn't call that working. And his wacky beliefs don't matter, you are right. The prank was still funny. ;)

Mtt Lauer is getting bogged down on the whole Brooke Shields thing, I wish he'd get into Scientology as the nutcase "religion" it is. Softball, movie promo hype is all it is, unfortunately. More of the same on Monday.

From the Today Show interview with Cruise, on the subject of drugs and drug treatment...
Matt Lauer, Crack Reporter:
It's very impressive to listen to you. Because clearly, you've done the homework. And you know the subject.

Now that's comedy gold!
That came from a transcript -- I didn't see the show. In fairness to Lauer, he was pressing Cruise pretty hard on the drugs/Brooke Shield issue. Maybe it was a sarcastic comment. Still, that is lame for a journalist.

Help us out here Matt...

Q: Does Scientology have secretive beliefs that are only revealed when members attain advanced levels? And do these beliefs involve aliens from outer space?

But you should have heard this:
Cruise: Matt. Matt, Matt, you don't even — you're glib. You don't even know what Ritalin is. If you start talking about chemical imbalance, you have to evaluate and read the research papers on how they came up with these theories, Matt, okay? That's what I've done. Then you go and you say where's the medical test? Where's the blood test that says how much Ritalin you're supposed to get?
Cruise had that same closed-eyes, pained expression that Sylvia Brown has when she's "talking to spirits". And I'd bet that every research paper he ever read was put out by the COS.

Yep, Mark's not advocating violence, he is just claiming that he "personally" would perpetrate it if he was pranked!

The art of pranking is indeed a fine art ---- and when the reactions are recorded on video, it's priceless. (well, not exactly priceless. You can buy them for $9.99)

DragonLady, do you really know anyone who wears "thousand dollar clothes"?
AS for the washroom attendant, you make it seem like the public toilet he is working in should be some sort of spotless and pristine environment that I just came along and ruined!
Lady, it's his job (minimum wage or whatever) to deal with spills and stuff --- he's being paid for the tasks, odious as they may be; to wash the urinals and the pools of mis-directed drips under them, empty the overflowing trash, clean puke off the floors, and even (*gasp*) deal with monster ◊◊◊◊ that clogs up the toilets. A little more piddle isn't gonna make his day any worse!

BTW, I would consider my prank to be a boon to the overall state of the national economy, if the side-result of the prank is to provide some poor plumber a few thousand extra dollars in income (maybe he will even go out and buy those fancy thousand-dollar suits).

Inspector Peter Dynon of the Victoria Police Dep't says:
"I think this show should be banned"

I think Variety observed that Scientology is Cruise's "star-sapping kryptonite." He should have never fired his publicist Pat Kingsley, the woman who kept the woo-woo talk in check). Tom couldn't handle it any longer because he cares about us, and wants to protect us from the evils of psychiatry.

There are a lot of douche-bag Republicans who love to whine about celebrities expressing political opinions (Shwarzenegger, Reagan, Silver, Woods, Kieth, and a few others excepted). I don't mind. It's pretty ****ing stupid to think a celebrity's proper role is telling us what products to consume. Politics, religion -- it's much more authentic, real, organic, or whatever other term one wishes to use. As far as actors go, however, they should resist putting themselves "out there" by the nature of their work; it's all that much more difficult for the audience to suspend disbelief.

The most obvious problem with the interview -- at least what I gather from the transcript -- is how Cruise comes off sounding like a condescending, messianic jerk. I wonder how Spielberg feels about all of this.

Well, Cruise was permitted to have a scientology recruitment tent on the set of the film.

Fine art. Right. And farting in public is a musical masterpiece. How old are you? 10?
