Cont: Today's Mass Shooting (2)

Exactly. Now you're asking the right question. Why is it so important to some people that the vast majority of mass shootings be ignored to laser focus on the few committed by what they consider a disfavored racial group?

You'll notice, as Bogative pointed out above, that even a mass shooting committed by an Asian man just didn't count as a mass shooting for some reason. For some reason, it only counts if it's perpetuated by a white male, any other shootings may as well not have even happened.

If it can't be used as a springboard to hate on the very concept and existence of America, it's of no value to them.

More right wing crap.

what the HELL is wrong with this country? FOURTEEN CHILDREN AND ONE TEACHER DEAD! I'm disgusted with the gun mentality in this country and those that support it. I don't want to hear about your FREEDOMS or your 2A Right. I don't give a damn about your 'right' to swagger around with a gun on your belt so you can feel like a BIG, MACHO MAN or WOMAN or any of the excuses you all have for "needing" to own a gun. I DON'T CARE! This love affair with guns has got to stop. But it won't as long as the NRA and gun nuts fight every damn effort to control it and equate gun ownership with 'freedom' and "mah RIIIIIIIIGHTS!" It makes me want to vomit. And I'm specifically calling out the REPUBLICAN PARTY because it's YOU who keep making this kind of slaughter possible with your constant refusal to do damn thing to stop it. It makes me want to vomit. Yeah, I'm ranting because I'm madder than hell. And those of you who want to respond with your 'reasons' for not stopping this madness, I DON'T CARE!

Yawn. I feel a lot more outrage about the fact that it takes something like this to get people loudly dramatic. There are so many mass shootings and killings that people just ignore. But when a group of kids get shot up, suddenly murder matters. The life of those kids isn't worth any more than the those of any of the people who are shot on a daily basis in this country.

Of course, the last body can barely hit the floor before some politicians and their supporters are using it as a political platform. Every time.

Oh, the irony......

There are going to be signs that weren't acted on that the shooter was disturbed. From a local news station, a person familiar with the town said when word came about an active shooter at the school, parents thought Ramos could be the shooter.

The Texas Attorney General just called for the arming of teachers...
I hate texas, I really do. I would give it back to Mexico in a minute, except the Mexicans are way too smart to accept it...

I'm with you on that. Texas is someplace I don't even want to step foot in.

Been watching Fox news coverage, just out of curiosity on the spin. Main message is that why don't these elementary schools have armed SRO's at each entrance, with metal detectors. Doesn't seem practical at any level (sure, guns in grade school). "Good guys with a gun."

Red flag laws, yeah I have mixed feelings about them, and haven't seem much about their efficacy. Not long enough for reliable, aggregate data. And obviously we're still in the fog of war point; there's nothing to suggest it. Could eventually be though.

I don't have kids, so cannot even relate to this tragedy as a parent would, but damn man, just how much more will it take for change? My guess is that there isn't a political will to do anything - if Sandy Hook didn't move the needle, doubt this will either. This is why mid-terms and control of Congress are so important.

Your response is, sadly, true to form. I'd say more but ISF rules and all....

It's not that I hate all Red states. I visit Wyoming, Idaho and Montana quite a bit. They have theri crazies, but it's not as bad as Texas.

Well .. he wouldn't be allowed to have a gun, right ? So it's more about availability of illegal guns, or someone gave it to him, or didn't secure it well enough. I don't recall someone getting into trouble for anything like that.

Attorney General of Texas wants to arm teachers.
You know my attitude toward the right is hardening. I am beginning to think the problem is the wrong people are being shot....

Well, it is Texas. Maybe some of the kids had Republican parents who would have raised them Republican. I mean, if you think killing Republicans is the answer and all, I guess there is your silver lining.

Personally, I don't think shooting people is the answer.

No link, so take it for what it's worth, but I thought I heard he took the guns his grandmother had, I'm guessing right before he killed her.

The problem is, frankly, psychological signs are a tricky thing, and there might never be enough resources to check out everybody who sends out what could be "Warning Signs". I don't see that as a viable solution.
If are going to see every Moody Teenager are a threat, you will have to deal with about half the teenagers in the US, since going around being Moody and Full Of Angst is considered cool in current teen culture, and a lot of the teens are just faking it in order to be cool.
People forget how when you are teen being cool is often the most important thing there is. Understanding how little it really matters is a part of growing up.

Which is exactly what you are doing right now.

There are days when I really hate the Membership Agreement/

I was responding to a political rant about Republicans. And yes, it happens every time a mass shooting occurs. I'm pretty sure nobody broached politics until that gem was posted. I'm sure we'll get to hear plenty more from the politicians.

And every time this happens I think, what about the people with red flags right now? The ones that haven't gone on a shooting rampage yet. 'Come on people speak up. At least try to intervene.'

No one listens to me.

This is what I meant about the GOP. Fox...the darling news source of the GOP... isn't addressing the source of the problem which is the violent, gun mentality in the US but wants to band-aid it with having guns protecting us from guns. It's insane.

Red flag laws, yeah I have mixed feelings about them, and haven't seem much about their efficacy. Not long enough for reliable, aggregate data. And obviously we're still in the fog of war point; there's nothing to suggest it. Could eventually be though.

They don't work when they aren't properly implemented. The 18 yr old who shot up the grocery store should have been red-flagged last year when he was held on a mental health evaluation when he wrote about wanting to commit a murder-suicide. But:
On Monday, state police confirmed that they did not seek a red-flag order against Mr. Gendron, who is now charged with one of the deadliest racist massacres in recent American history.
That's how he was legally able to by an assault type rifle.

I don't have kids, so cannot even relate to this tragedy as a parent would, but damn man, just how much more will it take for change? My guess is that there isn't a political will to do anything - if Sandy Hook didn't move the needle, doubt this will either. This is why mid-terms and control of Congress are so important.

Oh, there's a political will by the Dems to do a lot, but the GOP's staunch support for "gun rights" keeps anything from being done. Damn them.

I wonder how many of the obvious "warning signs" will have been ignored?

What in the actual **** could possibly make you conclude that we're every going to get better at identifying warning signs? How could anyone believe that the solution here is millions of people being educated on and always watching for "warning signs"?

Here's a ******* warning sign, he's 18 and has a weapon of war or easy access to it. What could an 18 year old need unrestricted access to an assault rifle for?

The Attorney General of Texas says the answer is to arm teachers.
Texas is not a civilizaed country. No way will I ever go there. It has gone totally crazy.
I would sign a petition to kick Texas out of the Union in a New York minute.

These idiots seem to have forgotten that an armed ex cop tried to take out a shooter recently. Problem is that the shooter had body armor. The security guard got off some shots and DIED ANYWAYS.

Arm teachers? **** you Texas.

Dude, an elementary school. Wear those NRA hats proudly, you ignorant ********. Every gawdamn one of you.
