Today's installment of 'How stupid can a Republican be' - I give you the shining light on the hill in New Hampshire. Not since the days of the founding fathers have we seen such insightful debate in a hall of government.

It seems a 4th grade class, in an effort to be taught how government works, got a first hand look at, well - how government works. The idea was to get a fluff bill sponsored and sent through the process of making it law.

The bill? Making the Red Tailed Hawk the state raptor. Not so fast, says the less-than honorable Rep. Warren Groen (R-Rochester):

"It grasps [its prey] with its talons and then uses its razor-sharp beak to rip its victims to shreds, to basically tear it apart limb by limb. And I guess the shame about making this a state bird is it would serve as a much better mascot for Planned Parenthood," Groen said.

So here's your lesson kids - whatever you do, go off topic. And when you go off topic, go big! That quote was in chamber in front of the kids. Real nice.

:(
Congrats republicans.

Heard about this on the way home on NPR. Nothing like hijacking a 4th grade class's harmless foray into hands-on democracy to score a cheap, crass political shot with a dead baby joke of all things. What a low-life (rhymes with "runt"). Hope you're proud of yourself, douchebag.

I'm torn between wanting to protect his right make a complete ass of himself speaking freely and a deep desire to kick him in the kneecaps.

Actually this was perfect for Republicans. Now these young people will be so disillusioned they probably won't vote in any election and with fewer young people voting the party of hate can hang on to power just a little bit longer.

Have the paleo-conservatives heard that there's a progressive virus infecting kids in NH? Isn't there where Ted went all Elmer Gantry on a toddler last week?

And they defeated the bill. Not a lot of rationale. I mean it was actually for the "state RAPTOR". Do they not know how a raptor survives? It was one of those harmless "let's make Springvale our state's "tree city" " bills.

Steel toed boots are quite acceptable for that!!!
Extra points if the kneecap flies out.

Hey, NoahFence, got a linky?

Here's a couple:

This one has a great picture of the abortionist raptor.

http://www.usnews.com/news/offbeat/articles/2015/03/19/new-hampshire-students-hawk-bill-provokes-abortion-comment

From the article:

Other lawmakers joked that they were representing a constituent named "The Big Chicken" or ridiculed the bill as silly, saying the state would next be naming an official hot dog. Those comments affected the students more than the Planned Parenthood comment, Deblois said.

Could have been worse, the legislature could have tacked on a couple of riders, like they did in Kentucky:
A bill that would give Kentucky students a voice in selecting school system superintendents has hit a snag. On Monday, Kentucky senators tacked on two controversial amendments — one relating to which school bathrooms transgender students may use, the other protecting religious speech at school — that the students say are likely to doom their effort.

“We really do have bipartisan support, it’s just these amendments don’t have bipartisan support, and they have nothing to do with our bill,” said Eliza Jane Schaeffer, a 16-year-old junior at Henry Clay High School in Lexington.

Schaeffer is part of the Prichard Committee Student Voice Team, a statewide organization of students in middle school and high school that works to give young people a chance to weigh in on state and local education policy.
