They aren't in Classes Preparatoirse aux Grandes Ecoles Scientifiques.

France also has lawyers and medical doctors, but they don't rank very high in academia over there.

But in U.S., that's the opposite.

I'm not sure exactly where Gerald Goertzel was born, but he was educated in the US, which is what I said.
