dies of a heart attack.
Damn, He was one of the few TV journalist I could watch, and one of the few who was even handed with all his guests.
He will be badly missed.

Whoa. That's too bad. How old was he? 40s or 50s?
And I just recently started to have access to Meet the Press through iTunes. Watched it last week. The show I assume will continue, but Russert will be missed. :(

ETA: Story. He was 58.

Man that is harsh...he was a great interviewer, journalist, etc...

Like others have said, he is one of the journalists you could sit and watch, knowing you would get the real goods from him.

..wow.

He will certainly be missed. Great interviewer, great journalist.

ETA: For old times sake:

He was one of the most intellectually honest liberals around. His counter part on the right was William F. Buckley. Both were tough on everyone but respectful to all. He will leave a hole in journalism. R.I.P.

What Malice, Oliver?
The Imus tape was fun, showing Russert unbending. He was a HUGE sports fan,and of the few perks he took as a big shot at NBC news were tickets for big games.
He was also on the Board of Directors of the Baseball Hall of Fame at Coopertown.
About the only bias I ever seen him show on "Meet The Press" was during Football season. On a Sunday when the Buffalo Bills were playing he would also concluse the broadcast with "Go Bills".
His nailing Ron Paul on Earmarks was priceless.
As well his holding Giuliani's feet to the fire.
And, BTW, he was just as tough on Democrats, despite having worked for several Democratic senators before going into broadcasting. He played no favorites..except for the Buffalo Bills.

Why did no news reports (that I saw) reveal that Tim Russert was taking heart medication?

I suspected it and had to google the question on the www to find out the info from a holistic "natural medicine" website. http://www.naturalnews.com/023434.html

I suspected it because he was 58 and most people I know who are over 55 in America are on some sort of medication. Also he was famous and presumably not in any sort of financial need so I assumed that he was under the care/grips of a doctor/drug company.

The view of the holistic website was that, like everyone who takes meds for coronary disease, he was only alleviating his symptoms and temporarily lowering his blood pressure or cholesterol, while the real causes of his disease were not being addressed.

I am sad to see him go, but also see his death as a wake up call for all of us to work on addressing our heart health through natural methods like diet and excercise.

Russert was good but not perfect as a journalist. He had some political biases that shone through some of his work. He was not always fair to those he interviewed. He let his patriotism blind him when it came to the run-up to Iraq. He was not always very well prepared for his interviews.

War ein neckischer Scherz - solltest du herauslesen können... :)

"It was a playful joke - you should've been able to acknowlede that due to reading between the lines..." :)

The death of a meat puppet was accompanied by a great rending of garments and gnashing of teeth. Yet another smokescreen from the American media complex that knocked news off the air.

SSDD.

Not everyone to the left of you is a liberal. Russert was pretty much a centrist. To call him the left's answer to Buckley is nuts.
