Who has been the most unreasonable on this whole debt limit thing?

If my SSD is cut, I'll be homeless and on the street. I will loose all my belongings and all the belongings of my mother who is critically ill in hospital.

I hate the republicans. I really hope that Obama is playing nuclear hardball and is able to get the stuffed up little nasties back to the table.

Fear in some seniors. Other seniors get P.O.ed. They get their pens and keyboards out. So do veterans, the other threatened group. Veterans are known for having tough stuff in their ranks as well that can kick Republican *cough* CAN *cough*.
 
Making threats on seniors' SS checks is pretty low on Obama's part.. The whole "might not be money in the coffers" statement was dishonest. The government has revenues, if Obama prioritizes other spending over SS checks that would be his choice to stop those checks.. his hand would not be forced by any means.
 
I checked Congressional Republicans, but only because they have been the most petty party in this ridiculous grandstanding. Just raise the debt ceiling and let the Bush era tax cuts expire to stop the bleeding, then start working on real tax reform. I think that taking a good hard look at the tax code is a good idea, but suggesting that we rewrite it as the first step when we have an August 2 deadline looming is nuts, and can only mean "we want to get our crap rammed through without any debate or close examination"
 
I have to say the republicans. Republicans say they won't even consider raising revenue, Dems are saying that they're willing to cut budgets on various programs, but some revenue raising measures will have to take place. The latter seems to be a more reasonable approach to me.
 
You know what would be really awsome, but totally impractical and probably illegal to implement?

If Obama was to cut funds to federal programs (including ss and VA checks) only to those areas represented by the teatbaggers that signed the Grover Norquest, no taxes pledge.

It's a temproary measure.

The markets want to see a long term solution to the issue and may not respond all that favorably.

What annoys me about the plan is how it just clearly shows that all the arguing over the debt ceiling is nothing more than politics.

Obama knows HOW to play nuclear hardball, the question is whether he has the spine to do it, knowing how it will be falsely spun by the nattering nabobs of negativity in the media.

He has not a lot of choices under the law. ALL debts have to come before ALL benefits. Period.
 
I blame both... It's the same excessive partisanship that's plagued congress for the last few years. When democrats got the majority it was largely a partisan vote for the major legislation that passed and it hasn't abated one bit since the majority between the house and senate got split between the two parties. Whether the debt ceiling actually gets resolved or not, I see nothing but political bickering amongst the two parties, both of whom think they can ram anything they want without compromising.
 
I voted republican because the idiotic notion - err let me correct that - the blattant class warfare that is the trickledown meme of republicans needs to come to an end once and for all.

I know that if the govt. defaults it will hurt the country, but I think the short term pain, is well worth it to once and for all get rid of the notion that the rich don't need to pay.

Republicans have traded in patriotism for profiteering adn they really could care less what happens becasue they think they can just go somewhere else.

I say LET THEM go and tax the hell out of them before they leave.
 
For the republicans to spend months screaming about the debt and then retreat at the first talk of raising taxes proves that they were never serious about the debt to begin with. They only wanted to cut programs they didn't like in the first place and used the debt as an excuse. The only thing I don't understand is how this is not painfully obvious to every one.
