Wow, I did some reading on that site. I had to go an archbishop's funeral when I was a boy and he was prominently mentioned in the Oregon cases from the 1970s and 80s. There were two priests who abused kids at retreat camp that I went to a couple of times. I must have at least seen one or both of them though I don't recall either name or face. Kind of dodged a few bullets there.

Okay, what they did was wrong, evil and vile. But you know what - it has nothing to do in particular with them being Christians or theists.

You are right but if I read the OP correctly, the church is invoking their status as a religion to insulate themselves from the law in this case. Members of their church committed a crime. The court ordered them to compensate the victims. But because they are a church, they think they can be held to a DIFFERENT standard than non religious folks who commit the same crime and are ordered to compensate victims. You think the OP is picking on this church because they are religious but the OP isn't the one holding a double standard. The church itself is invoking this double standard. Forgive the rest of us for noticing.
