They still think they rule the world

My cousin's husband died of the same thing some years ago. He went more quickly than the (tentative) predictions, and before he died he looked remarkably like Megrahi coming off that plane. It's all just half-educated guesswork, and everybody knows this. In a less high-profile case nobody would be batting an eyelid. They're not even batting an eyelid about Biggs, although he was high-profile enough in all conscience.

Since it was the sun the payed for Biggs to get back into the UK news corp are unlikely to touch it.

Let me know when a dangerous and violent criminal is actually released, will you? Just sayin.

Oh sorry, forgot about Ronnie Biggs.

Rolfe.

Are you saying he was released because UK justice screwed up? If so, why isn't that the official reason? Why hide behind the lie of "compassion" as official justification for what, apparently, are just suspicions on your part?

And if they're not just suspicions, why isn't there a movement to re-try or re-examine and possibly exculpate him?

He was released because he applied for compassionate release and met the criteria. Now there may have been behind-the-scenes machinations as well, but these are probably not the sort of thing that has been speculated about (i.e. the Scottish gpvernment would probably rather gnaw its own leg off than do anything Gordon Brown hapened to want).

The compassionate release specifically did not include any acknowledgement of the doubts about the safety of the conviction.

If you look in the right places, you'll find the demands for a public enquiry and to find out what really happened and so on. Unfortunately, with the appeal being withdrawn, that avenue is now closed. (If Megrahi had died while the appeal was still outstanding, other interested parties would have been able to continue it on his behalf. Other interested parties had indicated their intention to do exactly that. It is suspected this was the reason for Megrahi being "persuaded" to withdraw the appeal as part of his applicatio process to return to Libya.)

Sorry about the incomprehensible post above -- I was just changing my icon and text and wanted to make sure it works, then forgot about where I posted the "testing, testing" message.

It is true, by the way. The man made contact with his Scottish supervisor. It was a long distance telephone call, but a man with $3 million in a secret Swiss bank account probably can afford the charges.

Courtesy of, let me take a wild, unfunded guess, Quaddafi's generosity.

Now he's definitely going to show up in a Casino somewhere...

Boy, was the Scottish government taken for a ride on that one.

Suckers!
