'..A US senator has written to Gordon Brown, demanding the immediate return of the Lockerbie bomber to prison. ...'

From http://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/americas/

Tsk tsk - demanding the poodles do what they are told.

It seems that USAN senators still think they run the world. They haven't got the message yet that the USAN empire is over and that they can't order other countries about as they wish.

The Official UK answer is - Go and get stuffed.

The unofficial answer is much longer and much much fruitier.

Pip pip to Schtumer.

I never thought you be one to respond to something as "that's so gaaaaaaay" or some such.

You are allowed to C & P from the article, in order to get the man's name right:
Charles Schumer, a New York Democrat,
My guess is that he is posturing, since a letter from a Senator carries, basically, no weight. From the Secretary of State? It might carry some weight, but I expect PM Brown's response would be similar, along the lines of

"We did it, and are sorry you don't like it, Madame Secretary."

DR

Chuck Schumer? I'm actually a resident of NYS and I don't care what he says. There is a reason he's been passed over time and time again for senior cabinet positions even though he has been the senior Senator from one of the biggest states in the country for a decade. In fact, he's been in Congress for close to 30 years.

Seriously, would you like to be notified every time one of your MPs does something dumb?

I'm not at all sure what Senator Schumer was thinking. When you release a mass murderer of 270 people on "compassionate" grounds and return him to his home country to a nauseating hero's welcome, it's not like you can take it back. All you can do is point out again what an idiotic decision it was and bemoan that Megrahi has outlived the three months he was supposed to have left.

If you enjoy seeing the USA in a powerless position, then Schumer did you a big wet favor.

You're right - I wouldn't.

Did I get his name wrong? Oh dear. I wonder how that happened?

You really don't appear to get it yet - we don't apologise to Usan governments for anything. We don't want or need Usan approval for anything.

Senator, Secretary of State or President - it really doesn't matter - the response to them all would be essentially the same.

Go and get stuffed.

I think EJ's latest temper tantrum is based on the discovery that the terrorists and their supporters (Libya's Quaddafi, in this case) had once again played the "compassionate" and "humane" folks for fools and got them to release the murderer of hundreds of their own people to a hero's welcome.

I am no big fan of Schumer, but him pointing out that (as usual) the "unbiased", why-can't-we-be-friendly-to-murderous-thugs folks were taken for a ride is spot on.

Suckers!

Just curious: What does the N in the acronym USAN stand for? I get the USA part, but what's the N? Nation?

In any event, yeah I hate it when other governments make demands. Just recently, a British minister demanded that Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger close down a web site based in his state. Doesn't the British government know that America is not a colony anymore? The sun set on the British Empire decades ago! The nerve!

Blah blah blah, America, blah blah blah blah.

E.J.Armstrong you are making a mountain out of a molehill. He sent a letter expressing his views. Is it evidence that the Brits still think they rule the world when you send letters expressing your outrage to the Israeli government or the US government?

I don't think this was directed against a member. In fact I'm sure of it.

And saying "reported" when there is no substance to the report is just silly.

Reported*.
