This is pretty shocking if true:
There are 27 million slaves in the world today: That's more than double the number of people taken from Africa during the entire transatlantic slave trade.

Slavery Still Exists

A hundred and fifty years ago, an average agricultural slave cost over three times the average yearly wage of an American worker, about US$50,000 in today's money. Yet now, entire families can be enslaved for generations over a debt as small as $18. Slavery is illegal everywhere, but it exists all over the world.

I could not verify the numbers, but yes, there has been and still is slavery all over the world. And I do not mean people being underpaid here, I (and they ) mean human beings brought/paid for and owned by other human beings. One of, but not nearly the only, the reasons I have certain of my attitudes about good and evil and wish termination in extremis for the evil.

If you don't like slavery, then don't have slaves. Seems simple. Otherwise, leave me alone.

If they are provided with any sort of comfort or possession, then they ain't slaves cause they get paid.

Tim :)

I assume you are joking, but throughout history it was not that rare for slaves to have comfort and possessions. In some societies, priviledged slaves could even own other slaves.

This is, sadly, not news. I'm actually surprised the number is as low as it is.

Just kinda messing around, i see the number as pretty big and when i think slave, i think of our own history here in the US, in some other country's it might just be a way of life and the term slave might not be the correct one in some cases, guess it depends on how you look at it.

You don't seem well informed here.

There are documentaries on slavery all the time: children, women, mostly but in other discussions we've had on the forum, plenty of young men as well. It's not just "a way of life". That's sad people excuse it away like that.
