How are we different? And before you answer, keep in mind that we humans of today are genetically identical to the humans of 10,000 + years ago. You may also want to keep in mind that BY FAR the worst atrocities ever committed by the human race have occurred within the last 100 years. (i.e.- see your first sentence)

Let us assume for the moment that E.T. of a particular sort exist. The assumed E.T. are technologically advanced beings, once resident on earth, and correspond to the myths of ancient gods. It is stipulated for the purposes of this thread that their existence is supported by evidence, so the quality of that evidence is not a subject of discussion. If you wanted them to come back to earth, how would you go about this? Disallowed in this thread are questions about the veracity of the E.T. themselves, suggestions that the E.T. are something other than those specified, and discussions of whether we should wish them back at all.

If you don't want to take part, please excuse yourself, as you are in the way.

Genetically identical...?

I think we have gotten both taller and larger, to say the least... That we are capable of going to the Moon, if only those few trips, would be another.

Yes... genetically identical. Larger and taller are a matter of environment, nutrition, sociology... NOT genetics.

And why would being larger and taller makes us more worthy of contact by the ETs?

That we are capable of going to the Moon, if only those few trips, would be another.

I suggested that our space exploration achievements are an indication of our desire to make ET contact. You disagreed... remember?

Well, here we are engaging in a exercise in logic. It is possible to make deductions from flawed premises without violating any rules of logic.

However, since we are discussing complex hypothetical organisms, you either need a LOT MORE premises to fully describe what they are like and what motivates, them, or you will reach conclusions that do not follow from the premises.

With the former, it is no longer an exercise in logic and more an exercise in make-believe. With the latter, it simply fails as a logical excercise.

I don't see the point, really.

So we are in a Catch-22 situation. We can’t know what we have to do to get them to ‘come down’ until they actually comedown and we can assess their reasons for removing themselves in the first place and what they were are looking for after all.

I see that you have a theory that what they are waiting for is an invitation that requires 50% of the world to turn their eyes upward. This is pure speculation on your part as you have provided no evidence that this is what they are waiting for other than your gut sense. I see a few problems with your 50% target. While there will be a very large audience I doubt that it will be nearly than many. The ceremonies will take place during a time where 1/3 of the globe will be typically sleeping 11pm to 7am. The opening ceremonies have traditional taken place after dark so that fireworks can be shot off so lets say that it would take place between 7 and 10. This would fall somewhere within the typical working hours for the typical worker for another 1/3 of the planet (if you only count a 9 hour day ‘standard’ 8-5 jobs). In these two areas it is very likely that even if they do carry it live at say 1pm that it will be rebroadcast at a more convenient time. I don’t think that the majority of employers will look favorably on people taking off work to see the show.

Then there is the matter of how this would work? Do we need eyes cast upward? Do we need to be outside? I wouldn’t imagine that anyone watching this on TV would get up go outside and look to the sky. Would looking up via proxy through the camera suffice?

How would they know we were looking? Would it be a collective intent that they would sense or would they get that prickly feeling of being watched? Perhaps some other way.

If it is collective intent we are no where near that, you petition that I have seen referred to here would not achieve that as it can easily be read by the more religious to be intended as a prayer aimed at the God(s) which would show them that we are still a superstitious lot not worthy of contact yet.

That brings to mind one of my theories that you dismissed without comment:

My singular point is that we are different, because of our environment, nutrition, society, and we've made literally steps on another world, so..."we've changed."

Atheism is the 'belief' there is no God, but that shouldn't mean you can't understand or comprehend a common definition...

Then again, I've only seen the surface of your ignorance. Who knows where or if there's a bottom to that well.
