The xkcd survey

I realised after filling it in that I'd claimed to know the meaning of the word "Unitory". I suppose I could either claim it's a mis-spelling of "Unitary", or a malamanteau meaning "one nation Conservative."

I prefer the latter, because it's an actual justification for using the word "malamanteau".

I recognized just under half the words, those weren't all real words were they?

Took it yesterday. I'm pretty sure there is one word on the list of "which words do you" know that I only know of because of xkcd.

I'm pretty sure there are strings on that list that aren't recognized as real words.

Some of those strings carry meaning in English, even though they aren't real words. I counted those as real words.

For example:
Tribution. I read it as related to 'distribution' and 'tribute'. So I interpret 'tribution' analogously to 'distribution', i.e., 'the process of paying a tribute of goods or services'. Instead of moving things from a central location to diverse recipients, it's collecting things in a central location for a singular recipient. But it's not really a word. I just made up its meaning because English encourages this sort of thing.

I had a real tough time coming up with a popular food i don't like!

Ended up going with "mussels" - but mostly its cause i have very little exposure to them. THe idea feels gross, but i bet i havent had them prepared the right way yet.

Yes I think there were fakes there - and we will have hilarious results showing people saying they knew, in a cromulent way, what a fake word meant!

Yeah, I think the question was worded "do you know what it means", not "is it proper English" so I chose at least two based on slang meanings.

I like most food so said MacDonalds.

Mussels, especially New Zealand Green Lipped, are one of my favourite foods.

Chop some garlic and chillis into a pot, lightly fry in some olive oil, add half a bottle or so of beer, drink the other half. Wait until the beer is steamy, add mussels, cover for a few minutes until they all open. Serve with some crusty bread to mop up the lovely beery sauce left after eating the mussels.

And now I'm starving and salivating.
