Saddam's Death To Be Videotaped

(CBS/AP) Saddam Hussein's final moments will be videotaped by the Iraqi government, reports CBS News correspondent Randall Pinkston. National Security adviser Mouffak al Rubaie says the date of the deposed dictator's execution will not be made public, to avoid possible unrest from Saddam's supporters, but everything from the signing of the final orders by the judge, to the hanging itself will be recorded.

Iraqis, members of the coalition, and international representatives will witness the execution. It's not clear whether the videotape will be broadcast on Iraqi television.

Now if they REALLY want to milk it, they should air this live (pay per view) but allow the audience to vote on which method of execution to use, via a premium rate telephone line.
Who wants to be millionaire and big brother showed that the money is not is in ratings, but in the telephone revenue.

OK. What methods? Injection is such a bore.

1) Beheading with dull knife
2) Hanging
3) Electric chair
4) That thing where each arm and leg is attached to a different horse and they gallop in different directions

Would Howie Mandell in any way be involved?

I suggest that the produces of this execution set up a website where the public can nominate their method of choice, then, after nominations are closed a telephone poll is run each week to eliminate one method or another, there are weekly TV broadcasts giving background to Saddam's crimes, and technical details, with medical and historical analysis of the most popular execution methods. They may have to delay his execution, but you could get a whole seasons TV out of this.
 
Howie Mandel is indeed a good idea. Skin Sodom, pull sking over Howies' head, let him blow it up. Lots funnier that a rubber glove!!.
 
Maybe a teaser sub-plot could involve Borat and Pamela Anderson.Like they could be involved in a little "rough necking" in a smaller box on a corner of the TV screen as Saddam's punishment is being doled out on the main image, like hanging from his neck.

At the risk of a derail...

I've seen this bit about the wood chipper a number of times, and didn't think much of it. Hell, I know Saddam is/was a bastard, and figured that US troops found the damn thing when taking over Abu Ghraib or something.

So the other day, on a morbidly curious goof, I googled for "saddam wood chipper." I found lots of blogs, comments on blogs, comments on forums, etc. All of which were essentially the same as Shemp's comment above.

But...No news reports, no pictures, no eyewitness testimony, nada. In fact, I found zero actual evidence of said wood chipper, just a repeated allegation. (I also found this article on Wikipedia, which seems to be somewhat skeptical as well.)

So I kinda wonder how much of the "wood chipper" allegation is true, and how much of it is hearsay/rumor. It wouldn't be the first such rumor about a tyrannical regime.

I thought it was a plastic chipper in a recycling plant... hmm, an athlete who lost a race had his feet chipped away? try ggogling that.

I remember a video of Uday Hussein beating the feat of an athlete who didn't do as well as Uday would've liked. Not a nice guy, that's for sure, but no chipper.

Incidentally, "athlete chipper iraq" yields nothing remotely substantial. I eventually found this article about Uday's rather brutal motivational techniques, but no wood (or plastic) chipper.

I was under the impression that the wood chipper story came from the same discredited source as the babies thrown out of hospital windows story. I could be wrong.
frankly I think that Saddam's genocidal gassings and his brutal police state where bad enough without making up stories of outlandish and horrific tortures. next we'll be told that he made soap and lampshades from the fat and skin of his victims.
