The world to end May 21, 2011

Are we saying that the second coming of Christ on May 21 is actually viral advertising for portal 2?

sweet

So, this billboard showed up by my work last week. Apparently, the world is ending again. This time, it's May 21, 2011. I guess they are trying to beat the rush during 2012. Has anyone else seen these billboards?

Can we get e-mails and phone numbers for the group who put them up? I want to call and write to mock them mercilessly on May 22nd.

Portal 2 comes out from April 19 to 21 in different regions so I doubt it.

Whatever happened to the concept of Jesus coming "like a thief in the night"? IE the EotW date being a surprise?

It's in the bible, so of course many believers ignore it.

Harold Camping says something about that only applying during the church age which ended some number of years ago. This is actually a pretty standard question callers ask him and his song and dance are usually pretty entertaining. Most of his callers though buy into it completely.
(I get pretty bored while driving and his radio show is always good for entertainment until I realize people actually believe his spiel.)

Oh, yes - when the rare caller asks what will you say on May 22, he says he doesn't consider there is any possibility he is wrong and gives no thought to that.

As I said, I look for entertainment in strange places.

Well, they sound like unbelievers. :)

There was an article in our local newspaper a few years ago. Apparently he started telling his listeners that churches were all apostates and they should just stay home. A lot of his followers are very elderly and their local church was about the only social contact they had.

The newspaper article was something of a plea going out to check on these people.

I don't think he's very funny.

I always perfered July 5th 1998, X-DAY the xists would come due to the cosmic deal of JR "Bob" Dobbs.

Due to xist timecontrol, 7/5/1998 could come tomorrow, so get to it and be SAVED send your $30 to "BOB" now! Check, Cash or Credit.

That still makes more sense than Harold Camping.

Since this rapture is supposed to happen on 10/21/2011 we need to convince all of Camping's followers to just give us their money and stuff for FREE. As they are not going to need stuff or cash in heaven.

Thing is this rapture stuff is a 19th century invention from a Scottish preacher and a 15 year old girl having visions. It's not in the Bible, do not tell that because they most faithful are the ones who read it the less. Evangelical Christianity, religion for illiterates.

Penn Jillette said it best, why should you read the Bible? Because we need more atheists, nothing will get you there faster than reading the bible. This is why I met atheists who know more about the Bible and what is really in it that most Christians.

Remember the protestant revolution happened because of the printing press and the rise in literacy when average followers starting reading the texts and and compared it to the official church doctrine and then thought "Something ain't right".

Does anyone believe Harold Camping, or Joseph Ratzinger, speaks for Jesus Christ?

I think we can all agree.

We have a public address system here. I know the guy that runs it. I have a steer horn horn (I don't know how else to put that.) I have to figure out how to get him to let me do the Gabriel-thing on May 21st. :plot:

You mean, blow the shofar? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fEhRo2V9CjI
Notice that while it sounds like chauffeur, it's not the same thing. You leave the chauffeur five bucks.

I've just read that Mr Camping has booked himself a trip to St. Bart's, beginning on the 28th May.........

Just walk in on the 22nd. If they're there you get to laugh at them. If they're gone...you get to laugh at them.

Well, yeah, but I'd rather laugh at them while driving a big RV that I bought from them for $500; while living in their nice house that I bought from them for $500.

I mean, walk in, take their stuff, laugh at them, kick them out, shoot them if necessary (hey, if they missed the Rapture, this is their second chance to get to Heaven, right?) Then you have their stuff. You can feed their bodies to feral pigs. They won't care.

So May 21st is the day of rapture where they all disappear in one big "poof!" eh ?

Welp, time to dig out the mini cooler, a six pack of beer, and the lawn chair... set meself up on Main Street (suntan lotion and all), sit back and watch the jovial festivities front row center.

Poof!
Poof!
Po...zip! (oops, that poor bugger only partially beamed up, ewww)
Poof!

... Fingers crossed folks, fingers crossed.

Well, the first example here, sorry Gawdzilla, seems a bit cruel - shoot them? Nah. I wouldn't want to kill them or feed them to pigs. They may be deluded, but I wouldn't actually want to physically injure them.

On the other hand... Xephyr may be on to something - sit outside their "compound" or whatever those people are using for headquarters, and just relax, have a cold beverage and watch. Still, even that seems kind of cruel. Why waste my time just to watch others be humiliated?

If I could just execute the contracts from a distance, that would really be fine, for me. If they put their money (house, vehicles, etc.) where their mouth, heart, and faith are, well, good for them. Why excessively punish them for being wrong?

The better question, I think, is this: How can this become a "teachable moment" to keep people from being sucked into this kind of nonsense in the future?

But you gotta clean up the un-poofed clothes including the skidmarked undies...

Judging from the history of the human race so far, my guess would be "not at all."
