The UN's Agenda 21?

The elite of one country have almost always been more frightened of the elites of the country next door than of their own lower classes, and they've generally been right to do so. Things like the French Revolution or the Russian Revolution only occur when the local elite has been both egregious and stupid, and society tends to get back on track shortly afterwards, just with a new, more in-touch elite taking the place of the old. And before I'm told that's not true, bear in mind that as horrible as Stalin et al were, they were far more aware of the existence and suffering of their subjects than any Tsar (after all, the Tsar didn't even have subjects until Alexander II, he had bipedal cows); while Napoleon I was more in touch with the average Frenchman than any King of France had ever been.

The idea that a global elite is gathered together to steal whatever it is they don't already own - especially the modern, quasi-benevolent elite we actually have - is marxist didactism at best, and plain stupidity at worst. Humanity has lived through periods of real struggle between haves and have-nots, and they didn't look anything like this.

I´m not so sure about "in touch", but I´ll grant you they´d be aware of exactly how their predecessors were replaced (mostly because themselves did the replacing) and would take some steps to prevent this from happening to themselves.

Michael Coffman, executive director of the United Nations-hating Sovereignty International, took on something called Agenda 21, which was drawn up in 1992 for the UN Commission on Sustainable Development. Agenda 21 is a comprehensive blueprint of action to be taken globally, nationally and locally by organizations of the UN, governments, and major groups in every area in which humans impact on the environment (21 refers to the 21st century). In Coffman's eyes, Agenda 21 is a menace.

"An anti-human document, which takes aim at Western culture, and the Judeo-Christian and Islamic religions," is how Coffman referred to it. Coffman also alleged that Agenda 21 would lead to a kind of communist reallocation of property rights and redistribution of assets. Using a big word, Coffman labeled the proposed changes "usufructual," which he said means the government would own everything. Michael Chapman of Ed Watch, a group that opposes public education, reiterated Coffman's allegations that Agenda 21's real aim is to redistribute wealth. Coffman added that economic development is not being restricted in order to protect the environment, but rather to give power to the government.

"The new world theology is pantheism," Coffman said, "Nature is God."

Surprisingly, it is not a made-up word. Usufruct refers to land that can be freely used but belongs to another or belongs to the community.

On October 11, at a closed-door meeting of the Republican caucus convened by the body's majority leader, Chip Rogers, a tea party activist told Republican lawmakers that Obama was mounting this most diabolical conspiracy....

Rogers, the Georgia Senate majority leader, introduced legislation in January that would have blocked the nonbinding UN resolution from being applied to his state. Among other things, the resolution noted that, "according to the United Nations Agenda 21 policy, social justice is described as the right and opportunity of all people to benefit equally from the resources afforded by society and the environment which would be accomplished by socialists and communist redistribution of wealth."

If it seems as if Rogers is just repeating John Birch Society conspiracies, he is—literally. As in Tennessee, large portions of his 2012 bill, SR 270, were lifted word-for-word from draft legislation prepared by the Birchers.

But as Seth Clark, the Better Georgia volunteer who filmed the Capitol conspiracy bash, points out, Rogers' warning extended well beyond the actions of liberal politicians. According to one slide that was featured at the presentation, "Smart Growth and Sustainable Development are often promoted by NGO's, Chambers of Commerce and [public–private partnerships] that are unelected and unaccountable to the people." In August, when the Georgia Chamber of Commerce handed out its official grades for state legislators, Rogers got an A+.

Chips Rogers is my cousin.

And yeah, I'm serious. :(

He used to be a reasonable person, but he's changed with the times. Recently he supported a bill that would mandate what is and isn't taught in public schools. I thought about writing him a letter saying, c'mon, please, you can't really be going there... but it just made me too sad to think about.

I also have a brother who's a judge in Florida. He also used to be reasonable, but now is a Biblical literalist, gay basher, and rampant conspiracy theorist.
