The United States is an Arctic nation

Last edited:
I thought part of your problem was that America had no arctic interest. That is not true.

I edited my post after you posted btw.

still dont get what it has to do with Alaska.

and i dont know yet if i have a problem with those Directives.
but if, its about details into points like this one.

Involve the Arctic's indigenous communities in decisions that affect them

who will decide what affects them?
how can they represent/govern themself etc in detail?

Perhaps you could explain your confusion more clearly.

The United States has broad and fundamental national security interests in the Arctic region and is prepared to operate either independently or in conjunction with other states to safeguard these interests.

what dangers for the US national security are there in the arctic region?

will the Arctic's indigenous communitys get a fair share of the oil we will get from them soon?

The idea of paying attention to national security interests is to hopefully avoid their being dangers.

Russia's the other power player in that neck of the woods. Now I haven't paid any attention to the rest of the document, but national security interests don't come into play only when there's a direct threat.

Well gee. What do YOU think the purpose of the this directive is?

Lame duck goes quack.

im not sure yet, thats why i am here to get some sceptical views, but atm i think you didnt read the document .

ok that makes sence.

Do you think Presidential Directives are abused in order to "make law" without having to go through all the difficulty to get a law passed via the traditional method?

Because I remember there being this one Presidential Directive (PDD 51 I think) which essentially gives the President dictatorial powers in a national emergency. The thing that's disturbing about this is that the President wrote the directive himself (which means effectively that he wrote a law giving himself the power)

BTW (Keep in mind this is to be partially read in a light-hearted manner -- unless something actually described here happened, then it should be taken dead on literally :D ) Let's hope I don't disappear mysteriously, die of some kind of uncurable disease or cancer, or die under suspicious circumstances, or end up "committing suicide" by shooting myself in the back of the head with a 45-calibur gun (I'm not suicidal and am a bit self-centered; as a result I care way too much about myself to kill myself).

As I said, and as your link shows, Inuits don't live in the Arctic, but around it, where there is land.

In the other map you posted earlier, which for some reason is no longer there, the 'United Claim Area" and the part where there is oil, nobody lives there, so no one can have any claim to be "compensated".

Do you think Inuits live on ice floes?

Maybe the clue is actually here:

The United States and Canada have an unresolved boundary in the Beaufort Sea. United States policy recognizes a boundary in this area based on equidistance. The United States recognizes that the boundary area may contain oil, natural gas, and other resources.
