The Truth about RFK Jr

The Guardian reported on RFK Jr's putting pressure on a journal for retracting a study. "Dr David Gorski, a surgical oncologist who has written extensively about the anti-vaccine movement, pointed out in a post that Kennedy has portrayed himself as pro-free speech, but that he was “apparently using the power of his position” to put pressure on an editorial decision by a private publisher."

The Guardian continued, "The paper raised concern among scientists soon after it was published in 2021 by Neil Z Miller. It used reports made in the federal government’s Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System (VAERS) to find what Miller said were “unusual patterns and safety signals highly suggestive of a causal relationship” between vaccination and Sids. VAERS is a vaccine safety monitoring program where anyone can submit a report about any suspected adverse health event that happens after a vaccination."

The blog Important Context reported on mRNA opponent Alex Berenson's suit. "But with all eyes focused on the Trump case, another unusual DOJ settlement from the week prior went largely unnoticed. The department conceded in a lawsuit brought by former New York Times journalist turned prominent vaccine skeptic—and Trump supporter—Alex Berenson. What made the settlement so strange was that it came after a federal court had dismissed the case on standing grounds...Berenson initially sued the Biden administration in 2023, alleging that it was responsible for Twitter suspending his account two years earlier after the company claimed he had violated its five-strike policy against posting COVID-19-related misinformation at the height of the pandemic."

The author continued, "Dorit Reiss, a professor at the University of California San Francisco College of the Law and leading expert in vaccine law, told Important Context that the administration “had no reason to settle.” She explained that payouts like Berenson’s come directly from the U.S. Treasury, which is fed by taxpayers."
 
At SBM Steven Novella discussed treating autism with stem cell therapy. He concluded by saying, "Further – regulatory agencies like the FDA should crack down on dubious stem cell clinics offering cord blood or similar treatments for autism. They have cracked down in the past, with good results, but when they pause their crackdown, stem cell treatments for autism explode. There is simply too much money to be made here from desperate parents. Meanwhile, the opposite appears to be happening. RFK feels he has personally benefited from stem cell treatments for his spasmodic dysphonia, and he apparently thinks this is enough justification to make it easier for Americans to get experimental, speculative, and even dubious stem cell treatments without having to travel abroad. Evidence be damned."
 
The New York Times reported, "Even as the world is racing to contain the deadly Ebola epidemic in the Democratic Republic of Congo, the Trump administration is moving ahead with a plan that could decimate support for programs that detect and snuff out exactly such outbreaks. The new plan, proposed by the State Department, aims to overhaul the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s work on a landmark global H.I.V. program that also helps countries manage surveillance for emerging diseases, strengthen laboratory networks and support childhood immunizations."

This report continued, "The new plan replaces the health agency’s budget for the work with a “fee-for-service” menu that requires countries to choose and pay for assistance from C.D.C. staff in specific areas — wastewater and environmental surveillance, for example...In interviews, more than a dozen current and former employees of the C.D.C. and the State Department said they expected countries would, for financial or political reasons, pay for only a minimum of services, forgoing spending in areas that have less immediate impact but that are nonetheless important. (Many spoke on condition of anonymity because of fear of retaliation from the administration.). They predicted that the new transactional model would further destabilize relationships with foreign governments, unravel public health programs and make Americans more vulnerable to infectious disease threats."

At the Guardian Dr. Robert Shpiner wrote, "Alongside the cuts, the administration is doing something quieter. It is switching off the instruments that would register the harm. States no longer have to report whether children on Medicaid have been immunized. Vitamin K refusals were never counted federally to begin with. No official will say how many children are expected to lose coverage. Any clinician knows that silencing the monitor does not stabilize the patient. It only ensures that no one hears the alarm. A government that did not expect to find damage would not work this hard to avoid looking for it."
