In a more rational time and place, news outlets would report on this and highlight that, while shrimp with radiation levels higher than normal background radiation sounds alarming, the levels aren't a danger to health and even if they were, they wouldn't turn you into Alien.
 
In an Op-Ed at the Wall Street Journal on 2 September, Secretary Kennedy wrote, "The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention was once the world’s most trusted guardian of public health. Its mission—protecting Americans from infectious disease—was clear and noble. But over the decades, bureaucratic inertia, politicized science and mission creep have corroded that purpose and squandered public trust." It is behind a paywall, but the next paragraph mentions cloth masks on toddlers, and six-foot distancing.

I was curious enough to Google, and CNBC provides some perspective: "The level of Cesium-137 detected in the frozen shrimp was about 68 becquerels per kilogram, a measure of radioactivity. That is far below the FDA’s level of 1,200 becquerels per kilogram that could trigger the need for health protections." But Sen. Kennedy, whose confidence in the science bounds ahead of his ability to pronounce "caesium", tells us that if it doesn't kill ya it'll turn you into the Alien. From Alien. Or at the very least he guarantees you'll grow another ear. Jaw dropping.

There's also the fact that the matter did actually come to light. Customs detected traces of radioactivity in containers and told the FDA which found caesium in one sample. Many members of the general public* hear "radioactive" and go bananas. They don't understand that it depends on the level of radioactivity.

A few years ago, they discovered that the common isotope of Bismuth, 209Bi, which was long thought to be stable, is radioactive. But the half-life of it is 2 x 1019 years, so even if you ate a thousand Pepto Bismol tablets every day, it might cause cancer if you lived a few quadrillion years or so. But don't tell them it's radioactive, sales will plummet.

The Guardian reported, "In an exchange with Kennedy, [Senator] Cassidy noted the possible conflict of interest with some of the panel’s new members who are involved in ongoing litigation with vaccine manufacturers."
