Which is why the renaming of the Ministry of Defense was kind of surprising; calling it the Ministry of War, or at least trying to call it that, seems a bit too obvious, it ought to have been the Ministry of Peace (prize). But then I suppose it's all about the wet dreams of Pete Hegseth. Boys will be boys!

It'd be hilarious if WW3 is averted because one of the prospective major belligerents kills itself off through preventable diseases.

Isn't NIH the Department of FOAD? And don't forget about the Department of Terrorizing Ethnic Minorities, the Department of Jailing Political Enemies, the Department of Screwing Over Veterans, the Department of Stripmining all the National Parks and the Department of Beating Up Gross Hobos.

The committee's new members are:
Kirk Milhoan, a pediatric cardiologist who has examined cases of myocarditis related to COVID-19 vaccination. According to a news report from 2022, he backed the use of hydroxychloroquine and ivermectin - both unproven treatments for COVID-19 - to treat the illness during the pandemic.
Catherine Stein, an epidemiologist at Case Western Reserve University who argued against campus COVID-19 vaccine mandates in 2022.
Hilary Blackburn, a pharmacist based in St. Louis, Missouri. She is the daughter-in-law of Republican Tennessee Senator Marsha Blackburn.
Raymond Pollak, a semi-retired transplant surgeon with a background in immunology.
Evelyn Griffin, a Louisiana-based obstetrician who has called vaccine mandates for COVID-19 vaccines "a line in the sand" that should not have been crossed.

Raymond Pollak must be a mistake. He actually seems to have a background in immunology!

Catherine Stein, on the other hand, appears to be extremely qualified in spite of being an epidemiologist:
She’s a public health professor by day; a COVID-19 truther by night (Ohio Capital Journal, Feb 22, 2021)
COVID-19, she wrote in January 2021, is “not the scary killer the media and government portray it to be.”
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the World Health Organization, the American Medical Association, state health departments, and the rest have it all wrong, according to Stein.
On blogs, research posts published by anti-vaccine political groups, and in testimony to state lawmakers, Stein insists that COVID-19 simply isn’t that bad.
She claims that the Ohio Department of Health pads its case counts; the Ohio Hospital Association inflates hospitalization numbers it provides to ODH; health officials fear monger via flawed projection models; the death count only looks bad because of the rate of people dying of COVID-19 who have preexisting medical conditions; and other assertions downplaying COVID-19.

At Unbiased Science Jess Steier discussed the pros and cons of the Hepatitis B vaccine for infants. "Yesterday, we shared the story of one mom who was convinced that giving her baby the HepB vaccine was unnecessary because they weren't "high-risk", so when her baby was born she refused the HepB shot. Two weeks later, her son's father became violently ill. Turns out he'd been carrying the hepatitis B virus his entire life. He was born with it and never knew. The mom had to get tested and discovered she had also been infected at some point without knowing it. They were both infected but had no symptoms...When babies get infected at birth, 90% go on to develop chronic infectionthat silently damages their liver for years, potentially leading to cirrhosis, liver cancer, or even death...Public health makes population-level recommendations to catch those rare but catastrophic cases. If your family has good prenatal care and low risk factors, your individual risk is indeed very low, and ultimately, the decision is always up to you as the parent. But for the babies who slip through the cracks? This vaccine is literally life-saving. It has prevented an estimated 22 million deaths globally." (Dr. Steier would make a solid choice for Surgeon General someday.) The hepB shot will be discussed at the meeting of the ACIP this week.

My mother's undergoing medical treatment that requires a particular immune response to be muted, and thus has to get vaccines for several diseases she otherwise wouldn't have needed to worry about. None of us knows our future medical needs.

He directed me to commit in advance to approving every ACIP recommendation regardless of the scientific evidence. He also directed me to dismiss career officials responsible for vaccine policy without cause. He said if I was unwilling to do both, I should resign."

At Inside Medicine Dr. Jeremy Faust discussed the good, the bad, and the ugly of the budget cuts at the CDC. He began by saying, "Since its earliest days, President Trump’s second administration has waged a relentless attack on the CDC. First there was mass censorship. Next there were arbitrary “reductions in force.” Both of these were Project 2025, incarnate." He continued, "This year, however, CDC representative activity on the hill has been markedly reduced, I’m hearing. First, there was a general halt on these activities before Dr. Susan Monarez was confirmed as CDC Director. Once Dr. Monarez arrived, some of the usual activities ramped up again, though appointments with Republican staffers were more difficult to land than in the past, which is unfortunate. But with Monarez’s recent ouster, activity is apparently once again largely on hold. One source told me that no proactive briefings for Congress are planned."
 
The Hill reported on 25 August 2025, "A spokesperson for the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) confirmed to The Hill that Retsef Levi, professor of operations management at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology’s Sloan School of Management, had been selected to lead the [Covid-19 vaccine] working group...In 2023, Levi spoke out against mRNA COVID-19 vaccines and called for their usage to be stopped “immediately.”...He cited the risk of myocarditis, inflammation of the heart muscle, after administration of COVID-19 mRNA vaccines. Proponents of COVID-19 vaccinations have argued that the risk of myocarditis is far greater in the case of SARS-CoV-2 infections than immunizations."

Reuters reported, "The workgroup would not be headed by CDC staff members as it had been previously, Endpoints News reported last week, adding that the committee would also include ACIP members James Pagano and Robert Malone, a prominent critic of mRNA vaccines."

NPR reported, "According to her testimony, Kennedy told Monarez at the time that the "childhood vaccine schedule would be changing starting in September" and that she "needed to be on board."

"He was very upset," Monarez said. "He called CDC the most corrupt federal agency in the world, emphasized that CDC employees were horrible people. He said that CDC employees were killing children and they don't care.""
 
Originally I though that Trump would dump Kennedy when he becmae a problem, but that is no thappening.
I have towonder if Trump blames science based medicine for the Covid response and his losing reelection, and now he is out to get even by destroying science based Medicine.

Trump was himself a conspiracy nut, and wanted to fight Covid with bleach, rather than vaccines, but he was blocked by the scientific community, and to some extent by the public. Now he has removed all blocks.
